GPS Tracking on Cell Phones

Hotsauce

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was talking to a customer the other day and he said he could track his drivers with their cell phones. This got me wondering...is there a way my company can track the cell phone they gave me and find out my location??? I do not have an office, I work from home, but I am supposed to be on the road in my market. Is there a way that they can see where I am?

I have a Blackberry on Verizons network. The company gave me the phone and they get the bill and what not. The technology doesn't seem that far fetched...they have an IT department that monitors the laptops...

Anyone ever heard of this?

My favorite cat and mouse game with cell phones was back in the early part of this decade in Europe and Asia. It used to be (might still be, I dunno) that different countries had different ring tones.

As countries are pretty close together, it wouldn't be uncommon if someone "accidentally" took a wrong turn and ended up in Amsterdam instead of Brussels. They could be given away, however, if they had a smart boss that called them and heard a different ringtone than he/she was expecting.

People eventually got smart, and they started selling a service that would fake a ringtone on your phone for a fee. So you could gamble your life away in Macau, and when the boss called it would ring like you were in your meeting in Hong Kong.

Supposodely Verizon now includes the closest cell tower on every call you make giving your location on thier statements.

Lojack also now sells a GPS unit when put in a car will give you present location, speed, basically everywhere your car goes accessed through your home PC. . I'd be in a lot of trouble if my folks had that when I was a kid.

They've been able to tell what tower you're on as long as they've had cell phones. When I was there, they'd actually tell what trunk you were on rather than the specifictower, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were now.

And, um, triangulation wasn't invented in the Pentagon. lol

The military has been doing it for a long time, and they started using it to find bad guys. In fact, GPS came about in part as a way to provide accurate targeting for missiles. I remember using GPS as far back as 1987.

I have an example of the upside to this. I was robbed at gun point about 1 1/2 yrs ago. My attackers took about 500 cash and my cell phone. The investigating officer asked what kind of phone I had. I told him and he showed me his and it was the same phone. I didn't realize that it had GPS. They had the bad guys in about 20 mins. I'm not complaining.

    • I am trying to remember when I EVER said reach for need. My thing if someone falls you jump, if you can trade back a few slots and get help at the right value and pick up some ammo to move up from 51 which I think is outside the money zone, then you do that.   Take a WR later. Plenty of capable WRs have come from the 3rd round. Though this year I would go for C there if there was a reasonable choice. Take a TE if you must. I see more reason to take WR than TE. I think you give guys drafted two years ago and last year a chance to develop before cancelling them.    I think it is kind of unrealistic to throw everything all in on offense in hopes of going deep in the playoffs after an 8-10 year, even if it did have some nice bright spots in it.    And outside of this argument but relevant to it, I am bothered by Canales and Morgan and their apparent posture that we have arrived and are now in the big boy club. I don’t know where that comes from. They are out there talking like they are winners at 8-10. Backing into the playoffs in a real convoluted tie breaker scenario. They had some good games, yes. But the big feather n the cap, the LA Rams matchups, did you see what the Rams did? They didn’t fire the coaches but they fired their defensive backs. Bryce beat them yes, and it was pretty, but it was kind of like the Bucs and Mike Evans picking on our decimated secondary in 2022. Someone (Wilks) went down for allowing that to happen and they went down in LA too.  Wr aren’t as good as a whole lot of homers think we are. Shore up the trenches.    I think too many fans buy into it because they are so starved for anything that looks like a winner.
    • How exactly does one win OROY "by default"? Wouldn't winning the award mean that of the two, McMillon stayed strong the entire year while the other guy didn't and fizzled out? That's like saying Secretariat only won by default because the other horse stopped moving midway through the race. Absolutely zero logic in that statement, which makes me very glad that I've never really paid much attention to Walterfoozball.
    • I agree, teams in the past have fired the HC in order to retain a coach on staff...hell it happened to Mcderp this year, rams in the past and Im missing another.  The fall off for the Panthers team defense was huge once Mcderp leftd and Ron could not fix it even when he named himself DC.
