How long do you give Deangelo Williams?

The thing is, now that we are a passing team, do we really need to star running backs? If they knew we were going to feature a passing team, they should have not given DeAngelo that contract, period. I mean, unless D-will can get 10+ yards a carry, he won't be effective in our offense. (Because he only gets about 7-10 carries a game)

I am glad that they gave DWill & TD the contracts that they did.

It shows younger guys that they can and will be taken care of by the team in the future should they take care of the team. Especially after the entire Peppers fiasco.

A lot of people are going to complain, and they have ample reason to. I just hope that it's not because they're still thinking the best football teams are the ones you get out of the microwave. Not everything instant is better.

Losing a FA isn't a fiasco, it happens to every team every year.

Williams isn't a project, he should be producing now, instantly for the money they paid him. Whether they aren't playing to his strengths or he can't play in this style, or whatever doesn't matter. People outside of the Panther fan world questioned the wisdom of the move to keep him. It just doesn't make sense the way things work in the NFL these days. It's not about liking or disliking him.

so what's going to happen when stewart doesn't have to make his own holes?

all of a sudden he's going to take a step backwards?

he's in midseason form now. he's not going to slow down.

Huh?

When the o-line starts opening more holes, Stew will get even better and I expect DeAngelo will catch up to him quite a bit.

Like I said, Stew can work with less room than DeAngelo can... but if you give DeAngelo room to run he can score a TD from anywhere on the field.

Please let's not turn this into a DeAngelo vs. Stew thing.... they need each other to succeed.

The funny part about the op and everyone that has posted here is this simple.

Once he breaks a couple of big runs, strings together a few big plays... All this BS that everybody's talking about right now won't matter at all.

People like me will sit back and laugh at the rest of you in panic mode for no reason...

I've seen this before with about 10 different players. It always plays out the same every single time...

It's funny to watch; although it does get kind of annoying.

It all comes down to the OLine, but it seems Williams vision on finding where to run isn't there this year. If you get Stewart in open field he isn't going down.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa..... Lmfao!!!!!!

DeAngelo is going blind now?????

HaHaHaHaHa.....

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

You really aren't doing yourself a favor in pretending to be stupid and missing the point. Nobody said he was going blind and you know the difference between the types of vision you are trying to purposely confuse.

How many touches does he have. Less than 20 through 3 games? And you guys are worried????

That's my FUGGIN point!

I'll kindly watch u guys worry for no reason. I'm not being ugly about it. No need to be. Ive looked up stats for his past 4 years, week by week. No need to be "concerned" at all. Especially with this new O.

He's not our only weapon other than Smitty anymore. I mean damn. Think b4 u post

I believe it's his version of sarcasm...not to be taken literally. The way people talk about our own players is a shame. To even say his vision to see the whole isn't there is blind criticism.

For those who re-watch the games vs seeing them on tv/live only will notice the edges have not been set and guys aren't holding their blocks well when the defense sees run.

Stewart has played well, but like it's previously been pointed out he's been on the field in a lot of our passing formations and has benefited well from the defense having to respect the pass. The times Williams has been on the field in those same scnearios (but fewer) he's gotten positive gains as well. Befor last week Williams was at 2.7 ypc, and Stewart was at 2.5 ypc. The running game period has been bad not a player.

Also did you not consider that the way his contract is structured allowed us to bring back other valuable players this off-season.

As far as his contract, williams earned that years ago.

So i have zero problem with the contract.

Until i see the oline run blocking consistently well, i'm certainly just going to cast judgement on any of our backs.

I realize i'm in the minority, but common sense isn't common any more.

I concur. They made things right.

I believe that ATM we are installing the passing game. So the running game is going to suffer, because we mostly are running out of passing formations.

I am with you.

Why aren't we asking how long for stewart? He's had one decent game and that was Jacksonville, other then that his stats are just as bad as Dwill's.

The online has to block and create holes for the running game to work and right now they just aren't doing that. Oline play can take time fro those five guys to jell and act as a unit together, plus this is in a new system with a historically slow starting run game.

It's going to take time, till then just enjoy Cam slinging the ball and the Panthers winning a few games.

    • Canales is in the middle of the most critical point of his Panthers tenure: The 2nd half of the 2nd season. Looking back here is how the other head coaches performed to this point and how their time here pivoted. Dom Capers First 26 Games: 13-13 2nd Half of 2nd Season: (1996) won final 7 games to win division, took Panthers to NFC Championship Game. Final Record/Accomplishments: 30-34; NFC West Division Title-1996 George Seifert First 26 Games: 12-14 2nd Half of 2nd Season: (2000) Finished 3-3 with mixed results in games; finished 1-15 the following season. Final Record/Accomplishments: 16-32; None. John Fox First 26 Games: 15-11 2nd Half of 2nd Season: (2003) corrected the season after a strong start and mid-year stumble to win division, Won NFC Championship Game. Final Record/Accomplishments: 73-71; (1) Conference Championship; (3) Playoff Appearances; (2) Division Titles. Ron Rivera First 26 Games: 8-18 2nd Half of 2nd Season: (2012) Won 5/6 remaining games; finished 12-4 following season and won division. Final Record/Accomplishments: 76-63-1; (1) Conference Championship; (4) Playoff Appearances; (3) Division Titles; (2) COY Awards Matt Rhule First 26 Games: 10-16 2nd Half of 2nd Season: (2021) Lost final 7 games in a row, terminated 5 games into following season. Final Record/Accomplishments: 11-27; None. Dave Canales First 26 Games: 10-16 2nd Half of 2nd Season: TBD Final Record/Accomplishments: TBD The writing was on the wall at the end of Rhule and Seifert’s 2nd season, while Capers, Fox, and Rivera all finished strong and rallied. To be fair, Capers 1997 and 1998 seasons weren’t great, but he was faced with adversity and still managed to leave with at least one successful season...thanks to the second half of his 2nd season.
    • There are always a few head scratcher calls a game on us.  That was bshit
    • Honestly unless the Packers WR in the end zone was disqualified from tackling, he was literally right behind him ready to tackle him at the 5 yard line. Probably better he dropped it field position wise unless people think Mike Jack has Ted Ginn speed or something.
