Steve Young calls Steve Smith the best WR in football.

One of the debates which raged on here for years was whether the quarterback (in that case Delhomme) made Smith or the other way around. We all know we didn't have a Qb for the past 2 years and Smitty's production tailed off. This year we have Newton who is a rookie but plays much better and suddenly Smith's production is at the top of the league. So it seems that when Smitty has someone to throw to him he does amazingly. When he doesn't he struggles.

So it seem clears that the quarterback makes the receiver not the other way around or Jake (2009), Clausen and Moore would have done better than they did.

Rebuttals or agreement???

I think it can go both ways. But it doesn't take a genius to realize that if you have a poo QB, your WRs will suffer.

It's kind of hard to say. I never thought Marvin Harrison was that great, but dude is wayyyy up on multiple all-time lists because he had Manning. Mannign has made Reggie Wayne, Harrison, Pierre Garcon and many other Indy receivers look amazing. He goes down this year, their whole offense turns to poo.

I think Smitty made Delhomme, because he bailed him out rather frequently. Moreso than that though, they just had a good chemistry together and had great timing. I think Smitty has found the fountain of youth with Cam though, because he's on pace to have one of if not his best year.

They were discussing Calvin Johnson. Trey Wingo asks Steve if Calvin is best WR in the game, and Young's response is:

"Well, you got a lot of great guys out there. Steve Smith, he's a guy who I have always felt was the best, he hasn't had a QB the past two years, and now that he does, he's proving that now"

Cool. Smitty is no doubt one of the best in the game. I always giggled at the people who tried to pin his lack of recent success on him. The guy isn't just fast, if you watch closely, you just marvel at complete of a package he is. You could make the argument he is the best!

No debate...he is...the best...a man among giants with the heart of a lion.

smitty says that megatron is and that welker is the second best so.....

You don't honestly think that's what Smitty believes that do you? He has matured a bit since his 05 days but the prideful SOB that made him the best then is what's making him the best right now. He was just saying that because he was being humble.

I don't like ranking players except in groups(i.e. top 5, top 10) because at a certain point you're really splitting hairs. But if you were to put a gun to my head I'd say CJ is the best. His size just puts him over the top.
