defensive game plan vs ATL

What kind of strategy do you think Rivera & McDermott take into Atlanta this weekend?

Atlanta's offense:

QB- Ryan doesn't have arm strength or the ability to beat anyone downfield unless the coverage is absolutely blown.

RB- Turner has struggled this season, but is a good back & usually kills us.

OL- Sucks.

WR- White & Gonzalez are dangerous, but Jones is out.

I'm not worried about White. We've seen this year that Gamble is still a solid #1 CB & he will hold his on against ATL's top WR. Gonzalez could be a problem for us if Ryan has time to pass. Butler & Munnerlyn don't have the size to defend him so it'll be up to Godfrey. I'm not too confident in our run D, but ATL's o-line is so horrible you can't help but be optimistic.

Hopefully the D can keep Turner neutralized early on so that Cam & the offense can build a lead. If that happens ATL will have to play catch up & Johnson & the D can pin their ears back & bull rush/blitz the hell out of Ryan. His OL won't be able to protect him & we'll destroy ATL on the scoreboard.

I like sweaty balls on my chin. Also, I just pooped my pants.

White won't stay dormant for long.

Only thing I can say is if you think you have a chance, your D-Line better show up Sunday. If they don't, well we will take this game. :D

Cam Newton > Matt Ryan

89 > White AND Jones

Williams/Stewart > Turner

our 2nd string OL > ATL's OL

Shockey/Olsen > Gonzalez

You better hope they don't. ATL will need all the points they can get to keep up with the ass whooping their D is gonna take.

ryan has been mediocre the last couple of games but underestimating him is nothing short of foolhardy. i hope the team is taking him more seriously than most of the posters on here who've written him off.

our defense is leaky and our best shot at stopping them is getting quick pressure on ryan and hitting him as much as possible. CJ had better have a hell of a game.

Watching the game right now.

We have got to get more interior pressure from our two DT's. In fairness, New Orlean's 3 interior offensive linemen are very good, while their two tackles, for lack of a better term-suck

Notice we keep moving Greg Hardy inside, which I'm not sure how I feel about.

On the plus side, Atlanta's interior offensive linemen are no where near as good as New Orleans, Atlanta's running game is much more north than east/west, which will be advantageous to Dan Connor, annnnd just to top it off our two rookies will have another week of experience under their belt. Ron Fields has been playing well, also.

Stop Turner, make Ryan throw? That seems like the answer if our offense is able to produce again. Hopefully Gaither plays, honestly he might be a better fit at MLB than Connor, but our LB group has done a lot of rotating around.

I expected our LB corps to be in worse shape than it is after Beason and TD went out, but to the credit of the players and coaches this group seems to rank somewhere in the middle.

    • Yards a game works better over a longer period of time as well. Averages always work out over the long run. The smaller the sample size the easier it is to skew. Also opponents matter more when the size is small. Player 1 lights up 2 bad defenses in 4 starts vs Player 2 playing 10 games vs multiple defenses. It hard to make it apples to apples how it currently sits. Remember during Bryce’s little run last year how annoyed you were when people were pulling Bryce’s starts from week 9 on vs the whole season.
    • Someone else claimed I said EVERY.  Literally in my post breaking it down it gave Bryce TDs per game.   Shough however has the majority in his favor if just looking at starts. whats subjective about comp %, yards, QB ratings and turnovers?  Now I guess the argument one might make off them could be subjective.  But all I’m saying is statistically as a starter he has been better this year overall.  I don’t think Shough is great.  I think he is impressive based on the situation.  2nd rounder stepping in on a bad team.   And he like so many other QBs…..serves as little red flag going off about what we are doing here offensively.
    • Player A - 2 starts.  200 yards in each start. He averages 200 yards a game.  Player B - 1 start.  Throws for 400 yards.  Comes in another random game and has 1 pass attempt on a Hail Mary to end the game that goes incomplete.   Now given the random game he appeared for a snap, he averages 200 yards a game. Thats why you isolate starts. If you are talking starter vs someone who began as a backup.  Simple made up numbers/situations to illustrate the point.
