Just started...

Talked about key to containing AP is playing disciplined football, what they are working on.

Mac mentioned Gamble's play - Rivera said he is happy with his progress this year and how Ron Meeks has worked with him.

Rivera said he was bummed he couldn't go to the White House with the 85 Bears recently.

Talked about staying close with Singletary and Frazier, but still wants to beat them Sunday.

Likes Cam showing his emotions, wants that to carry over to teammates and coaches.

Jim asked if Ron would send Christmas cards to the former coaching staff for keeping Steve Smith on the shelf for two years. LOL

Asked about the 3-4, Rivera said the plan is NOT to switch to this base defense over the next several years, because we don't have the personnel for it. Instead, they want mixed looks to keep the opponent off balance. Gives McDermott more options to call, to adjust. Wow - adjustments in-game, what the hell are those???

Asked if Butler will play - Ron said Captain will start.

Chris Harris name was mentioned and Rivera started laughing. That says it all. He really likes Chris, gave him his props, said anything was possible, but it didn't sound like anything was happening with this.

To defend AP we need to play disciplined football and use gap football. Work on tackling and force AP to go to the sidelines

Discussed Chris gamble and how he's been more focused then ever. Talked to chris gamble in the preseason and told him that they needed to him to be the number one.

he's disappointed about not being able to go the white house with the other 85 bears

On why he called cam "Mr Moopy head". Cam newton wears his emotions on his sleeve. he loves the fact that cam shows that he cares and expects more from himself every sunday. he's got a drive that other teammates should take note of.

doesn't plan on sending christmas cards to j fox for keeping smitty..lol

He also discussed how smitty has been the absoloute professional and how he loves everything the new coaching staff is doing. That was key to him staying.

Question about the 3-4:

Ron said that were not gonna go to the 3-4 its gonna be a combination of 46 and 4-3 with a bit of 3-4. overall with the versatility that we have on defense we can have multiple looks.

darius butlers status is up in the air sunday because of family issues. captain will start.

he discussed chris harris and his history with him. If the opportunity presents itself we may see chris harris back in charlotte.

Someone who's lived in this area way longer than I have tell me this. Did Fox - or any of the prior coaches for that matter - ever get on local sports radio much?

Pretty sure Fox didn't, or not much anyway. Hurney did a little in the past, during the Fox era. Siefert - never. Can't remember if Capers did.

Its cool that Rivera does that.

    • Yeah the only way current set up is fun is if every year a different tiny school builds a super team and makes a run. You just need 1 rich guy to say you know what would be funny, if I drop 30 million and my school has a shot at a national championship.   They won't ever do it but put some sort of tiered salary cap in place and sign them to 4 year deals. You can only transfer up or down tiers no lateral moves because mean ole coach at texas doesn't play me enough so I'm going to Tennessee. So a player at prairie view can transfer to texas and get paid more or a player from UNC can transfer to UNCG because he isn't getting playing time. If a guy is transferring "up" he can get a salary bump if the team has salary cap space. A guy transferring down has to stay at the same salary as he signed his 4 year deal for so the lower tier team would have to have the cap space to sign him. It would stop the money chasing for lateral moves but allow guys who improve massively at lower schools to make more money as juniors and seniors and hopefully keep more guys in one place because the contract is for 4 years.
    • Bryce youngs first starts for 3 years   51 of 103 49%     153 yards avg 6 ints 2 tds   But this is the year he turns it around
    • His third year was worse than Bryce's third year, significantly so.  And he had a game where he threw for 120 yards, two inteceptions, and had a fumble.  He had multiple games where he threw for more int's than td's.
