So... I quit smoking today...

this probably sounds stupid but the thing that worked for me was simply telling myself "you've never made it this far before."

everytime i tried to quit before my last successful attempt, i would crack after 12 or 24 hours. i was always able to get down to one or two a day, but couldn't get over the hump.

once i made it that first 24 hours, i said "well, this is farther than you've ever come before."

once i made it to 48 hours: "well, just keep going. don't want to have to ever go through those first 48 hours again."

after one week: "dude, don't do it. it's been a week. you'll never make it this far again."

after one month: "holy crap man, it's been a month. don't be a bitch. if you smoke that one cigarette it's all over."

here i am almost one year later. still have to remind myself every now again that it isn't worth it, but the frequency of those little reminders has diminished considerably.

It's just Army culture man... There's nothing like it anywhere. Thick skin is required, especially where I'm at. There is nothing but Type A/ Alpha males.

They're just testing my mental toughness. That's all

Examples: when I quit-- "pussy... Nobody likes a quitter"

If I cave--"pussy... Only fags cave to peer pressure"

It is what it always has been.

I was just gonna post "nobody likes a quitter."

Iam too familiar with the type, been one myself. Yes, it is all to test your mental toughness. Behind those comments, they are all pulling for you to succeed. It's a disfunctional type of love but love all the same.

Stay strong and you will be fine.

It's the environment that I'll miss the most when I retire.

I'm good bro, the hard part is over with. I intentionally have been getting poo faced every night, so that when I drink, I won't need to smoke! That way ill have NO excuses! I know myself too well.

i quit smoking on a 9 month deployment out to sea and i was a boats. I felt that if i could do that i could anything because of the stressfull nature of our job....Which led to me driving the ship with my dick. Yes you read that right i steered an aircraft carrier with my dick once.

I come back to this thread looking for a "I broke down and smoked one" post just so I can do that to you...

Good job making it this far.

Quit a few months ago. Was a pack a day and it was one of the hardest things I've had to do.

I chew gum(orbit lulz, not nicotine gum) damn near 24/7. Helps keep my busy and not think about it. Doesn't help that I'm a waiter and damn near 99% of the food service industry smokes 2 packs a day. Good luck bro, it's tough.

    • i presented this in another thread. he throws better to the out breaking routes the wr run, but almost nothing to the inside. that is half the options on a wr route tree. How do you run an offense like that?  even the outbreaking routes he throws are moonballs, that allow the DBs to catch up unless the wr is wide open. he has to throw with a lot of anticipation becuase he doesnt have the arm strenght to get it there if he is a little late. thats probably why you see balls behind the wrs.
