Roster move: Fields cut

d-run

Recommended Posts

The Panthers, and their worst DTs in the NFL and awful run defense, cut a guy in a position of dire need for a rookie CB/returner who hasn't played in a year and has ZERO nfl experience.

lol he obviously showed a lot of promise to the organization.

You guys are obviously very distraught over this move. Yall must have saw something in him I didn't....like it only taking 3 seconds to get pancaked to the ground instead of the 1 second it takes Fua.

They are going to evaluate talent. I am not saying this season is a lost but we are a 2-8 team and it would be nice to see some of these young guys (hogan and kearse) and see what type of potential there is.

If they need a roster spot that badly......cut Armanti. Let Hogan do PRs.

I could live with that.

It's just another testament on Marty being a fanboy of such players that they will probably have to do something to get kicked off the team for the Panthers to move on. ......Shelton, DJ, etc

I'm still surprised Everette Brown was released this early. I figured he'd have another 2 years before they moved on. I mean, he at least was productive compared to some players they've held on to.

I don't quite understand releasing Fields for the Hogan activation...

Fields seemed like a guy Chico really liked as a vet presence up front and had a lot of good stuff to say about him in various pressers since we got him. He also said the younger guys would be getting less reps in favor of Fields...

I would've thought Stanford or Thomas would be let go in favor of Hogan, so I don't really get this move, unless they feel Kearse is ready to step in and contribute what Fields was.

Meh, I don't get the move either. Why cut a DT for a CB when we have 5million CBs and only 4 DTs right now? Granted, to Mr TDs expertise, Fields was pretty terrible, but he was the least crappy DT we have trotting out there. At CB, we have Gamble (lights out this year), Cap'n (good but not great), Butler (better than Cap'n), and Stanford(or McClain, they are both awful so I don't remember which one we kept). I would have thought we cut the last CB, but then again, he might be a key contributor to our already crappy special teams. But Hogan could have seemlessly taken over that spot and played better on D and maybe as crappy or better on ST. But that's just me, I'm no coach or Mr TD, I'm just a guy who played Madden once five years ago.

Being reported that Neblett has been getting more reps than Fields lately.

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
