Gerbert was benched yesterday

maybe I'm wrong, but I've seen a couple plays a game from Gabbert that make me think that given time and an offense that actually functions he could be a decent QB in this league. Admittedly I haven't seen more than highlights in the last 3 weeks, but the games I did watch were filled with drops and a terrible o-line that couldn't pass block for more than a second.

I am glad we took Cam over him but I think the jury is still out on Gabbert...

First off, his last name is Gabbert. And second, those in the media who hyped this kid while putting down the other QBs during the draft, knew this kid's track record.

That is why they didn't want anyone focusing too much attention on his college tapes.

What is so funny is, Cam, Dalton, Jake, and Ponder were all scrutinzed for their accuracy and footwork issues by the media. Cam was told over and over again, by those who faithfully back Blaine, that he needed to prove that he belong in the NFL. While Blaine was labeled as the most NFL ready QB out of the bunch by Mayock and the majority of the elite media. Yet all u would hear folks like Mayock claim was Blaine only problem was he had occasional "happy foot." REALLY????

So the bottomline is, if the media hypes an athlete without much to show for the hype, we must simply believe it and fault everyone around them before we fault them.

The benching was ridiculous. Jack did it simply so he could try to keep his job for another week.

Blaine Gabbert has no offensive line and no receivers.

Benching him was pointless and counter productive.

Wow...u're starting to sound as bad the some of the Panthers fans when it comes to accepting the fact that the Panthers' defense SUCKED.

I called in when Blaine got drafted that the media knew this kid wasn't worth a high pick and was going to throw everyone but the kid under the bus. And u REALLY wonder why 10 other teams passed him by.

Cam and the Panthers offense is putting up some serious numbers that should mean wins for them but their defense SUCK and everyone knows it. But that isn't stopping those who are quick to blame everyone but Blaine for his bad playing to point out any little fault that exist in Cam as the reason why the Panthers are 3-8. HYPROCRITS.

First off, it's hypocrites. And second, can you name a Jaguars WR that is worth a lick off the top of your head?

I don't see how Jaguarfan is so off base. Granted, I don't have any intimate knowledge of the Jaguars...

I did my homework on all of the rookie QBs in this year's draft and honestly I've always felt that Blaine should have NEVER been in the first half of the draft. I would have taken Cam, Jake, Dalton, Ponder, and even Mallett, with all of his so called "issues" over Blaine. Blaine lucked out because Andrew Luck stayed in college and he ended up with a very media friendly agent.

It's funny how Cam going number one meant that he had to prove himself but Blaine having a team reach up and get him at # 10 means that he's that good but need some time under his belt to prove himself.

My how we adjust our logic to suit the individual. Not u per-say...but I'm just saying.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
