Sam "Tony Montana" Hurd Gets Arrested

Do all athletes tend to have high crime rates relative to the societies around them or is this just an NFL/NBA/American thing? I know America is notable for high crime rates compared to other first world countries. Not sure how the crime rates are among the NHL, I have heard of a few incidences. Also not sure how crime rates are among the EPL and La Liga soccer teams.

Would make for an interesting study. Just seems like every week we have a new cocaine dealer or wife beater in the sports news.

Report: Hurd’s drug clients included many NFL players

The drug arrest of Bears receiver Sam Hurd is a story that could become a serious public relations problem for the NFL.

We told you how Hurd is accused of trying to buy more than $575,000 worth of cocaine and marijuana every week from an undercover agent. 670 The Score in Chicago has more troubling news for the league.

A law enforcement source told Laurence Holmes of 670 that Hurd was one of the top drug dealers in Chicago. Police obtained a list of NFL players who were supplied drugs Hurd and the number is “in the double digits.”

Considering Hurd already allegedly dealing drugs while in Dallas, this could create problems in at least two NFL cities. And it could create the impression, at a minimum, that the NFL’s drug testing is pretty easy to get around.

If he is such a big shot drug dealer shouldn't he have other people doing his bitch work (pickup & delivery)? Also that list won't matter if the players test clean. Cocaine is only in your system for 72 hrs.

Apparently he thought he was talking to another big shot. He has lil gangsta doing his bitch work around chi town.

Strikingly, the arrest rate for the general population (about one per 21 people) is higher than the NFL's, which has averaged about one incident per 45 players per year since 2000, according to the review. The NFL has been making note of this fact for years, especially after 1998, when authors Jeff Benedict and Don Yaeger came out with a book entitled, “Pros and Cons, The Criminals Who Play in the NFL.”

!

Betcha there are some very nervous people waiting for that list to come out (and you know it will).

Here's hoping there are no Panthers.

... Playing like crap for 3 1/2 quarters. Kneeling down, bowing his head, then popping up & playing awesome to win the game. Plus he's all chipper & talkative!

I think we've found The Golden Calf of Bristol's secret!

I wonder if anyone will take this seriously?

Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff had to be separated from ESPNDallas.com writer Calvin Watkins on Thursday when Ratliff didn’t appreciate the line of questioning.

Watkins is a well respected writer that has worked at the two major papers in town. He reportedly asked Ratliff about former teammate Sam Hurd’s arrest for drug trafficking and the conversation “quickly went South” according to Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Think he may be on that list?

Also.

Hurd faces 40 years in jail, hires Snoop Dogg’s lawyer

Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was allegedly a bigtime drug dealer in Chicago. And he’s hired a bigtime lawyer to defend him against federal drug trafficking charges.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Hurd has hired L.A.-based attorney David Kenner to represent him. Kenner famously (and successfully) defended Snoop Dogg (back when he was Snoop Doggy Dogg) against a murder charge.

Hurd, who appeared in court Thursday, faces up to 40 years in jail. He will remain in custody at least one more night.

    • I’ve turned from a staunch detractor to him now having my 100% support. 1. He turned the worst o line in the league in to a top 10 unit in 1 offseason. Incredible.  2. Contracts to Horn and Hubbard. Reward your ride or die homegrown talent. Neither contract was way out of line for market value.  3. All of the talent he has added are intelligent, high floor types who love competing.  4. He understands that an org lives and dies off of the draft. This was the very first draft that I can remember since… ever where the franchise didn’t make a boneheaded trade and/or waste a high pick on a project tweener. No. It was Tepper sitting by almost completely mum, watching Dan orchestrate Dan’s draft…. picking intelligent high floor dudes from big name schools who showed up to play every Saturday and loved competing. It just felt right.  5. He has shown no reservation in cutting bait on guys that he sees as not having what it takes. This is really big one. It’s what the good teams do. Without it, you get the ‘coach’s guys’. Complacency. Stagnation. All these dudes needs to watch their backs.  I see him building a young core who have displayed NFL level ability. For the first time in a really long time it feels like the captain of the ship actually knows what he is doing.
    • Jake Guentzel was a pretty elite  player and he fit us very well. And we’ve only had two offensive elite forwards under Rod. That’s Jake and Miko. Sample size is pretty small and I feel like your arguments biased. We are going to get an elite player or two In the off-season, we can be the judge of that this time next year.
    • Defense is overall bottom 5 without a doubt.  We literally do no have any depth on any position for the defense.  We are once again a couple of injuries away from being complete garbage again.   I assume next draft will be defense heavy.
