Has Newton surpassed Delhomme as your favorite Panther QB?

As someone who has high standards when it comes to QBing, you could get easily frustrated watching Jake take snaps. His throwing motion was weird, his mechanics were not up to par and barely improved if at all from 2003-2009, he'd have those boneheaded Jake games where you knew he was puzzled and wasn't going to create magic, and he loved loved loved to throw it off his fuging back foot at times to ricky proehl or smith in triple coverage. He was never someone I thought you could rely on to end up with 3500 yards and a good rating at the end of the year.

But then again, he was ballsy, scrappy, and his goofy ass somehow got the team to rally around him for most weeks. I loved him for that. He'd have 37 yards the whole game and then blow up in the fourth quarter and throw ducks that somehow found their target every time. He stabilized the QB position better than any other panther QB that preceded him. Perhaps more importantly, he didn't alienate Moose by getting drunk and spouting racial epithets because he thought he was down with the brothas. In other words, he kept the team's morale in a healthy stasis.

Jake deserves his own place in panthers history and no doubt he helped place a foundation for the team's culture and heritage to grow.

But there is no telling what heights Cam will lead the way to. Cam has barely had time to make new panthers history and he's already rewriting the record books for rookies and setting a new standard of performance. He's the guy most people never believed was good enough to spend a no.1 pick on and his rookie season is better than Peyton's. Cam will help the fan base progress and grow and will probably end up the single biggest acquisition the Panthers have ever made. He's already surpassed Peppers in my mind as the best Panthers draft pick of all time.

I thought Jake great 03-05. But after that I honestly challenge his mental work ethic at the game. You could tell the guy couldn't read the coverages like he used to and would blatantly not see open targets.. I really don't think it was just the tommy john. He got too heavy handed with Smith.

Jake threw for 300 yards 3 TD's in the superbowl against the Patriots. Until Cam gets to a superbowl, Jake is #1.

But Cam is 10000000x more exciting than Jake.

If we would have pulled that one off, Jake would have been a shoe-in for SBMVP. Sigh. Our D was awful that game. I don't think Brady touched the turf once.

For the record, Delhomme's first season with the Panthers kicked the poo out of Cam's first season with the Panthers. I mean I'll take Superbowl over 7-9 any day of the week. All I'm saying is this thread is too soon and this should be the end of it.
