jet's lockerroom has a "toxic" atmosphere...

Two days after Rex Ryan admitted that he didn’t have his finger on the pulse of the Jets this season, rookie quarterback Greg McElroy revealed a toxic attitude that permeated the lockerroom.

“It’s definitely not a fun place to be,” McElroy told an Alabama radio station on Wednesday. “I can assure you.”

McElroy, who was placed on Injured Reserve due to a thumb injury, reiterated the vibe that several players talked about on Monday.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever been around extremely selfish individuals,” said McElroy, who was a seventh round pick out of Alabama. “I think that’s maybe the nature of the NFL. But there were people within our lockerroom that didn’t care whether we won or loss… as long as they got their… they really had a good game individually. And that’s the disappointing thing."

On Monday, one player told the Daily News that “this place is a zoo.”

Bickering between Santonio Holmes and several teammates in Sunday’s season-ending loss to the Dolphins took center stage as the Jets missed the playoffs for the first time since Rex Ryan took over in 2009.

go out and get whatever talent you can find regardless of compatibility and throw it all together.

He's not the only one saying it.

People were touting Rex Ryan as the next big thing a few years back. My how things change.

Actually, the problem wasn't Rex. It's was a bunch of grown men who got away from the meaning of the word team. You really want to believe the Jets are the only team with selfish players? The Jets are on the media's hot-seat right now. One might argue that the Panthers defense may have suffered from that selfish disease also the way they played this season.

Give it some time until the media turn on McElroy for doing what they enjoy folks like him doing.

Anyway, I guess it's safe to say that with McElroy, what's happens in Vegas won't stay there for long. Want to invite him to your family get-together?

:D:leaving:

McElroy's remarks are much, much more critical than Cam's "lion" comments.

Taking into account McElroy has done nothing at all on the field, it is waaaaaay out of place for him to say this.

Nolan Nawrocki, take note...this is a guy that is going to have trouble winning over a locker room.

This makes me think about an interview with Kris Jenkins on the radio months back. He was going on and on about how great the Jets were and how they treated their players like men and had respect while at the same time bashing the Panthers for being too involved with the players and not 'treating them like men'. The whole thing rubbed me the wrong way, not because he was trashing the Panthers(I'm fine with that), but because he seemed so childish and immature about it all. I finished listening to the segment/interview and just felt like he was completely wrong. Turns out I was right. I try not to laugh at others misfortune but I large part of me is happy that their arrogance and immaturity is blowing up in their faces.

IMO, McElroy is alwasy lookig for attention at any cost. He seem let his ego write checks his body cannot cash and gets away with it because he's shallow and plays right into the hands of the media.

I remembered when McElroy was doing interviews right after his "near perfect" Wonderlic score, a radio personal asked him if he thought he was better than Cam. He knew the media was "questioning" everything about Cam including his intelligence. So McElroy, staying in his usual "I need attention" mode, tried to make the argument that where as Cam may be more physically gifted than him, in the end, his intelligence as a QB will sustain him longer in NFL.

I guess when McElroy goes on to his next job as a media analyst for the NFL, he will be one step closer to fulfilling that prophecy..SMDH

the problem was rex, though. not the only problem, but a huge problem in that he admittedly took his finger off the pulse of what was going on and let things get out of control.

i don't know what he was doing but it probably had something to do with feet instead of team.

the jets made a mistake in the personnel choices they made. ryan made a mistake in letting them get out of control.

when a team melts down like that, esp. with that much talent, it's the coaches fault. it's his show, his organization. if he can't handle it, he shouldn't have the job.

Look...I'm a NYer...last season the Jets made it to the Play-offs and the Giants didn't and you had the same ish....The Giants' environment was not a happy place to work for...blah...blah...blah. Many of the Giants's players prefer Rex over Tom...Blah...blah...blah. If you pay attention to our sports media and their TMZ style of reporting, you'll either go crazy or kill yourself. :)

    • I don't think he did it to spite Bryce. Seems like Bryce is a truly decent guy that virtually everyone likes. I do think Frank likely preferred Stroud and was either was led to believe or deluded himself into thinking that he would have a lot more say in the direction we went at QB in the draft. Once we decided on Bryce knowing Bryce didn't fit his system and preferences in a QB it really seemed like the wind went out of Frank's sails and he basically started mailing it in and just waited to get fired and paid out. Maybe I'm misreading the whole situation but that's certainly the way it looked to me from the outside looking in.
    • Again, it may have nothing to do with Bryce Young. The coaches are thinking about the whole roster. Many guys have said how much different this off-season has been not having to start from square 1 with a playbook, language, etc. You’re talking about bringing in a guy to lead the 2nd team offense who they now have to spend time teaching. Every team is different. This team is young and developing across the board and trying to find some positive continuity. With how Morgan and Canales have approached everything I’m fairly certain they considered all possibilities and decided it was best for the overall team to roll with Dalton for now. They value whatever it is they feel Dalton brings over the extremely low probability of whatever washed out, journey man, reclamation project developing into a franchise QB. You and I have no idea why and aren’t there in the meetings, but it’s clear that the FO sees this young failed franchise QB project as less likely to pan out than you do.
    • Frank justed wanted to throw Young to the wolves because he wanted to draft Stroud. It was a big FU to Tepper and that is why he only lasted a few games before getting canned.
