Interest in a Superbowl

I believe the NFL requires a minimum 20K available full service hotel rooms for the Superbowl for just NFL related people and another addtional 25K or so for "the public" within an hours drive during peak traffic.

There are about 22K hotel rooms in Meck county but less than 4K in the city. Not sure how many within an hours drive. So I am sure hotel rooms are a concern especially after the Jacksonville debacle although Tampa isn't exactly a hotel hotspot either.

I am sure the lack of nightlife, things to do, older stadium, hotels etc all come into play and Atlanta having a big ice storm the week they hosted the Superbowl in 2000 sure doesn't help Charlotte's chances either.

But yet There is enough hotel space for 150,000 race fans on race weekend...i dont get it

The one thing that is bad about that point, especially since I work near the concord mills area, is that half those people camp out for two weeks before and don't need hotel space. Hell look around the race track almost all of is just open field 95% of the year. Now why Jacksonville got one before we did should be a argument.

Charlotte is a cool city but it will take some work to make it more attractive but I think it will happen in due time. They need to get a light rail to run from downtown to UNCC. More buildings and clubs. It's time to get away from the NASCAR stuff, it is nothing but embarrassing for Charlotte. There is a whole arts/music scene waiting to burst in Charlotte. It would be cool if there were a few more areas like NODA around the city.

ONEBADASSCAT in response to your NASCAR statements.

I'm not a NASCAR fan but to say that it is embarrassing is an over step at the least. Most of my Family are big fans thats how I know any about that I do. But you do realize how much money that NASCAR brings to Charlotte? Not only Charlotte but the rest of the state. Almost all NASCAR teams are based in NC. Why would you want to cut out a sport that is ever changing and is in a resurgance? NASCAR is gaining popularity. I say anything that brings people to my city/state and gets them interested in things Carolina i'm in.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean its an embarrassment. The two races bring in over 300,000 people. Thats a lot of cash for the community.
