Do we need another tight end?

Not having Barnidge was one of the reasons our Special Teams were pathetic this year

I agree that Barnidge is an awesome special teams player. But, I would much rather have Shockey as a TE. Shockey has shown that he has what it takes to be a leader in the locker room, to steer guys in the right direction. No more is it just Smitty trying to run the locker-room.

But, would I like Barnidge to be on ST? Sure. I would also like to see Senn and Captain full-time ST players, too. That could actually be a very good ST.

That's why I'd want to keep all 3

i think we need more dynamic tight ends! none of the tight ends we have are even in the top 10 of tight ends in the league.

also how come everytime someone is asked about a older panther player, said player always "has a few years left"?

ugh. we have a spread offense of sorts. a scheme and a QB that uses a lot of different targets on a regular basis.

no one (aside form maybe smitty) is going to be getting much in the way of stats.

i don't care how "dynamic" a TE you get, they won't be getting a lot of targets or receptions. same thing with another WR.

who we have is great for what we do here.

at the very least it was good enough to help us be the 6th best offense in yardage and the 4th best in points.

TE is one of the least of our worries and should absolutely be put behind more legit needs like CB...DT...OLB...OG...OT...FS...etc.

if we spend/waste a pick on a "dynamic" TE then we've just screwed ourselves out of an opportunity to upgrade something that actually really needed it.

hey, but at least we'll have TE that you could maybe draft in fantasy football (until you realize that he doesn't get any better stats than the two TEs we already had).

I think Finley of the Packers is out of a contact. He complained a lot this year about not getting the ball. I kept thinking all year we should try and sign him and part ways with Shockey. However, watching him drop ball after ball down the stretch I say stick with what we got this year, then try and find a freak next year.

Id poop, piss AND cream my pants if we got jermichael. No bs

i would like te more like new englands te. that matchup is even present in our division with jimmy graham and kellen winslow and tony gonzalez. greg olsen really doesnt scare me or probably any one else for that matter. steve smith has twice as many catches as the next guy which was our RB, jstew. i think for us to be more dynamic we need to be more dynamic there.

it won't make a difference.

the TEs are respected enough. they became a focus of defensive planning just like smitty did early on.

smitty has more catches than anyone because he is the main target. after that newton's favorite target is the open guy.

you want to have the same success that new england's TEs are having? how many teams have that? how many teams have tom frikkin brady throwing to them? sorry, it's not going to happen. not here.

olsen and shockey are a lot more respected in the league than people realize. homers here that are dissatisfied are looking for big stat monsters they can have on their fantasy squad.

that just isn't going to happen in an opportunistic spread offense that just tries to get the ball to the open man.

Gary B. Has done nothing to make me think he is an answer at the. TE position.

I know he got his extension, that leads me to believe that chud thinks he can continue to develope him.

Yes, we need a althetic stud to groom.

I do not agree that we are fine with the guys we have.

Fans must be so thrilled just to have tightends involved in the game, specially since fox, that they are willing to accept average #'s.

With chud use to having Gates, i'm sure he wants someone who can produce even more.

Isn't a need? No...but if there is someone they like, and he's bpa at one of our picks, i will not be surprised if they draft one.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
