The 1999 Draft

Only 5 picks... ohhh ohhh do I win?

Yep, but I already spent your prize money on a bag of potato chips (sorry).

There's still one more thing (besides Panthro's mention that both years end in 9) that could potentially be similar. Look at the picks again and see if you get it.

Our chances of winning?

Close.

Outside of Chris Terry, that draft was used on defense, including two picks on defensive linemen, and one in the secondary. It'd be no great surprise to see a similar profile to this year's draft.

(Uptown Bully caught on, but didn't spell it out)

Throw in too that the reason we had no first round pick that year was because we were on the wrong end of a deal made for a disgruntled franchise defensive lineman.

Sound familiar?

(it's deja vu all over again)

Ehh.. we don't have a first this year because we traded it away for Otah. That disgruntled franchise defensive lineman we have is the thing that might actually get us one this year. Hopefully we stick someone else on the wrong end of a deal this time.

And yeah, the profile looks eerily similar to what we might draft this year. Let's just hope we get more than one decent player though.

This year I'm hoping we're on the right end of that deal.

The biggest difference, of course, is who's in charge. If memory serves, Jack Bushofsky had the duties that now belong to Don Gregory. There was a different head coach in charge too, but I've forgotten his name.

(or blocked it out, not sure which)

I originally went to the Panthers history page just out of curiosity about the one other year in which we had no first round pick. Didn't realize how many similarities there were.

Naturally, I'm hoping for a much better outcome :sosp:
