Good Parenting?

Tell her it's important that she be respectful even when she disagrees about something, and you will be developing a thoughtful, rational human being.

I agree with your idea but you are wording everything way too nice. Also, she should know all that already.

I love all the 20 somethings commenting on proper parenting, reminds of my sister with the masters degree in education, but no children of her own, telling my wife and I the proper way to parent. After she had her won children she came back and apologized.

Kind of what I was thinking. :p

You should definitely take her advice on spelling and proof reading though.

Although I guess it's possible she really did "won" them somewhere or somehow?

My dad used to beat me like madness when I was a kid. He busted my lip a couple of times, gave me black eye, grounded me for months. I hated his ass when I was a kid... Now looking back, I deserved it. I was a little prick and I'm grateful he whooped my ass. I grew up to be a better person and my dad is my best friend.

nobody as a child deserves that treatment

If you read between the lines, he’s saying:

Dear Daughter,

I am emotionally handicapped. I am passive-aggressive. I can’t be bothered to actually learn to communicate with you effectively. Instead, I will do the only thing I know how to do, which is to cry out in front of the world like a child. I solve delicate problems with guns because I lack the ability to cope with life’s difficult problems like an adult.

Please use this as example of how to parent your own children (should you have any) so that we may continue our brand of crass, ignorant, and highly embarrassing dysfunction in the family for many years to come.

Love,

Dad

I have nothing to say so I will criticize a typo. Pretty much what is expected around here.

No, I already told you how I felt about it. That is, after the whole "young people know nothing" argument that is played out. I know many "20 somethings" that are great parents, and I also know a lot of 30/40/50 somethings that are/were TERRIBLE parents. You have no valid point. The guy looked like a fool, and while trying to "set his daughter" right he pretty much acted a child himself and became a hypocrite. Not to mention embarrassing himself, his daughter and the rest of his family.
