Saints Franchise Breesus

Recommended Posts

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Saints have applied the franchise tag to quarterback Drew Brees.

A league source tells PFT that it’s the exclusive version of the tag, which prevents Brees from talking to any other teams — and which eliminates the risk of some other franchise offering Brees a huge contract and giving the Saints two first-round picks if the Saints choose not to match.

It’s not a surprise. The non-exclusive tag for quarterbacks will cost roughly $14.4 million for 2012. As explained Friday, just before the bounty brouhaha broke, the exclusive tender is expected to land between $15 million and $16 million, due in large part to the coming release of Peyton Manning and the recent restructuring of Ben Roethlisberger’s contract.

This is going to be fun to watch.

It's about getting picks now. And I bet the Redskins are ready and waiting.

No way they trade Brees. This isn't Manning who may never play again like he used to...Brees is still a top 3 QB. I know they will loose picks with the bounty fiasco but they won't stock up at the cost of Brees.

What an "un"fortunate turn of events the past couple days! Now I'm just waiting to hear the news that Matt Ryan has been hosting an interstate ring of illicit donkey shows and the Buccaneers decided to retire as a franchise.

Bwahahahaha.

    • My take on Darnold was always that he was fine with a good offensive line but would wilt under pressure with a poor line (Jets and Panthers). Seattle began the year w/ a pretty bad oline and they improved somewhat but Darnold is showing he is a pretty good qb. Imagine what the Panthers would be today with Darnold and without Bryce Young and all the wasted draft picks to get him.
    • Similar situation but that would be a better version than what we currently have. Sam isn't a franchise QB but he is a good bridge guy. Either Seatle finds a young guy to groom or they have hit their ceiling. They 100% can't put it on Sam's shoulders and expect to win but the team needs to carry less with him at QB to win vs what this team has to do with Bryce.
    • to me the post would suggest Sam Darnold was good last night because Seattle won in a wild game.   Which is what we do with Bryce Young.   Sam Darnold didn't play well last night.  Which is how he trends, goes to a new team.....looks okay and becomes classic Sam Darnold down the stretch.  Last 6 or 7 weeks old bad Sam is coming out a lot (and then a weird Atlanta game mixed in lol).
