If we take Luke Kuechly who plays MLB?

That could be said about every position.coverage LB do not go in the top 10 and no scheme places LB play over DL play.does not matter how athletic or how good your instincts may be if OL can get up to the next level and get their hands on you.

I agree whole-heartedly that DL is more important, however, at this time I don't feel Brockers improves us like a possible multi-year pro bowler LB in Kuechly could.

I'm on the "sign Garay and hope better DT prospects roll out of next years draft" wagon!

Why is this an outragious pick? To me is is the best player availible if he is there at 9.He can make an imediate impact and fill an imediate need.I dont see a defensive player except Claborne that is a better pick

Why do you weirdos love RB's and LB's?

Do you think that San Fran would pick a LB at no. 9 if Patrick Willis had been hurt the year before....for the first time in his career?

Good lord guys, you don't have to take LB's in the 43 this high, especially if they aren't competing for the Mike.

I just don't see him as a pro bowl LB.would rather bring in a LB prospect through FA.Garay is decling and we already have a stop gap 30 year old DT.

Depends on who was there in the draft and if the only other LB they had was James Anderson

We already have young DTs on the roster to develop.

Because of three things:

#1. We have one of the Top 5 linebackers in football. Sure he was injured, but lets see how he does post-injury before we go for linebacker in the first round.

#2. Linebacker isn't our greatest area of need compared to DT, CB or even Safety. Linebacker is actually the least needed position on defense.

#3. 100% sure he wont end up being the best player available at 9. This is all wishful thinking.

1-I dont see that special DT/DE that everyone else sees.I have already said that I thought he was the BPA if Claborne does not slip.

2-Do you think we will pay TD 8 million? Connor is a FA....and no one knows how the achillles will effect Beason

Elevating James Anderson beyond "good" Lb is nothing more than being a Panther homer!

Were in what I wrote did I say Anderson was good? He did lead the team in tackles last year tho, and considering what many have said about Luke this should make him good.

The one thing the Giants seem to grasp that Carolina never does is that the defensive line matters.

It matters more than linebackers.

It matters more than cornerbacks.

They draft that way and they have two superbowls for it as that defense is disruptive.

A defense can never have enough good lineman and it's those lineman that keep the o-line off of the linebackers for the running game and put pressure on the QB protecting the

cornerbacks.

Fix that d-line, be it draft or FA and 90% of the Panthers defensive issues will go away.

Simple and Plain.

We also have young LBs to develop. I'm not stuck on DT either I want the best DL somebody who will get after the QB.

Underthe Rivera defense what would keep him from getting pressure on a qb?How about Von Miller last year?

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
