Should I drop out of college?

Hi, this is kind of an embarrassing subject for me to talk about with people I know in real life, because I come from a close knit community were everyone who isn't college educated is looked down upon (a guy I knew dropped out because he had a passion for firefighting and wanted to pursue that, yet everyone made fun of him for it), so I've turned to anonymous huddlers for help (God help me?)

Anyway, long story short: my second year of college is slowly drawing to a close and yet I have no career choice chosen yet. To be honest, I have absolutely no passion for anything in college. Like, I know that in todays day and age, there are very few college degrees that can net you good jobs, others are being outsourced, and the rest are simply worthless. It just seems to me that I'm wasting my time and money doing something that I honestly don't like, yet by societal pressures I'm doing anyway. My grades are slipping due to me growing more and more apathetic towards school. In fact, the reason I started this thread was because I just grew so frustrated with a class that is now basically a lost cause.

Sorry if this post seems kind of, uh, delirious because I did not get any sleep last night and I am completely exhausted. I'm honestly sick of school, but it's just basically the only path my high school and community put me on so I really don't know what to do.

what college u at?

how many credits do u have left?

edit: see you are a sophmore

dropping out will not make the job search any easier. Try changing majors or transferring. Maybe join some clubs/social goups/intermurals to get your morale up.

slamming some sorostitutes never hurt, either.

yeah, I've thought about the military multiple times, it does seem like an interesting lifestyle and it would definitely help me mature a hell of a lot more when I got out. cwg i know you were in the navy, but do you know if there are any major differences between navy life and army life?

I got an uncharacterized discharge from the coast guard during my first few days of basic, or I could tell you more. What I do know is that with my 92 ASVAb I was going to have my choice of location and job, and cape may is cold in october. Also, recruiters lie. Mine told me my food allergy was no big deal, and its what got me sent home. Do homework before signing up.

I assume you mean IT jobs? If so then that is completely false. It might have been true 5-10 years ago but definitely not today. Sure, tech support is still going overseas and certain positions like QA, but there has been a huge push to revert the mistakes of the last decade in software development and bring things back to the US. I'm a 7 year java developer and I get at least one job offer every other day, most days I get 2 or 3.

You got to figure out for yourself what you want to do but you should have all the facts. The way it sounds you have your degree paid for(community of college educated folks) so that's not something to just throw away. You're not selecting a career, you're simply selecting a degree. Everything will be much different 10 years from now.

In the Navy you don't have to camp out and march in the mud and that was one of my major goals. There are more technical things to do as well IMHO. Also in the Navy the chances of someone shooting at you are less which I considered a plus. On the minus side if someone shoots at you while you are in a submarine your survival chances are about zero.

military is a good option..

most college students end up with an average job and go 40k+ in debt, there are better options than they have made.. but those options usually involve: a desire to stay in school and find a field that is actually worth going into debt for or will have to be good at sales with a great work ethic.. or have a solid idea to become an entrepreneur and incredible work ethic (workaholic)..

college isn't for everyone, and there COULD be better options, but if you don't have work ethic/social skills/go-getter mentality, you might as well join the military if you really hate school..

which is still going to require you to go to school eventually, but may give you a little time to mature and get your priorities straight..

just my 2cents, which I think is pretty accurate.. ;)

go navy man nothing in the world beats being out to sea. Also when your ship is at its home port its pretty much like a regular job with a guaranteed paycheck. You go to work at around 7 and go home at like 4 or 5. bootcamp is a joke with the navy as well all i did was fold clothes, stamp poo, march and exercise 3 times a week. The first 2 days in bootcamp sucked thoa.

So do you have a idea of what you want to do for a career? Military is a good place to go if you dont know what you want to do. But try to do a job in there that you like. I know the Army will let you pick a career as long as you have the scores for it. Served 4 years it wasnt bad but knew it wasnt for me. Good thing with the military is the GI BIll and VA loan program so if you ever get out. You can finish scool and buy a house. You can also take courses while in and they will pay 75% of the tuition.

    • I think he did a solid job.  Honestly I liked his post game interview the best.  He gave himself a C and said he left a lot out on the field.  That kind of attitude can carry him far.
    • This is lacking a fairly considerable amount of context. For one, Adams(age 22) started 12 of 16 games, had 38 rec, 446 yds and 3 TD's on 66 targets(18 less, with 2 less games started). The main thing missing here is that the top two WR's for Green Bay that year combined for about 2800 yds and 25 TD's. Now if you want to throw a more accurate dart at Adams, take a look at year two. This year the production was spread around considerably and Adams didn't stand out from that pack(pun not intended).  So, if XL struggles mightily this season, I would probably keep that comparison in your quiver to counter argue. I would suggest that I don't think that scenario is probably very accurate for most HOF caliber WR's taken in the first round over the past 15 or so years. Adams was the 89th pick overall, as well. A little different hill to climb than XL, although not massively.
    • to clarify I am not referring to Will Levis.  Not knowingly.   I just made that up and tried to use a reasonable guesstimate of what else was done.  That sounded in the ballpark.  At one time I did look it all up and there were several teams that had much more successful days downfield.   If that happened to be Levis' actual numbers than it's more of a lucky coincidence.  If memory serves, it wasn't just Will Levis that brought the claim into question, it was SEVERAL teams had better days.  and you are missing my entire point of the subjective nature of it all.  If PFF employee Doug watched Bryce's film and then used his same unique subjective vantage point to grade all 31 other starting QBs.  Then dumped into into a spread sheet, it would a subjective Doug take but at least it would be a level uniform subjectivity.   The grades are done by various people.  All watching and applying their own subjective view to a play.  Everyone isn't going to grade incompletions out the same.  Or completions.   So when you dump it all into a spread sheet and hit sort.....it's not actually a statement of fact as portrayed.  Which is why you sometimes get some head scratching stuff.  I'm not reframing anything.   I don't think.  I just wasn't going to look it all back up so I was talking vaguely off the general issue I have with PFF and treating any random claim they make as the truth.
