Cutting Wharton has no immediate impact on cap

I did think you could use the cap space right away so even I learn things each day. But it doesn't change the fact that I was right about what we were going to do.

And if you were so smart, then why were you championing restructuring him or extending him when that shows you knows nothing about the salary cap or how contracts work earlier today??? Didn't see anything about a June 1st release as I mentioned. Seems you didn't have a clue.

I am not the one pretending to be a know it all. I was just sick of seeing you re-post the same info and act as if you knew how everything was going to play out exactly all along.

All I am saying is no need to pretend like a know it all. I am quick to pie/rep somebody if they correct me when I am wrong and thank them for correcting me in the thread. No need to run around and act like a know it all.

Go ahead and speak your peace on it if you'd like but I am not spending any more time on the subject, :cheers2:

Actually, due to TV contracts, the cap will be higher next year, so we want to spread the hit out into next year.

The points of cutting Wharton now:

So he can find a new team

Not sure if he was entitled to a roster bonus--maybe not

Do you really want him on the team during OTAs if you are cutting him?

Hurney can be good with money, but he's also made mistakes with it. You can't, however, say he's good at finding players from other team's scraps more often than not. No back-to-back winning seasons, four winning seasons in 17 years (not all under Hurney of course). Yes we finally have a franchise QB, but until JR and company gets off this, "build through the Draft and keep our own", crap, we won't get any better. Pay attention: If you're not getting better, you are staying the same or getting worse.

Right now, we're an 8-9 win team. We need to get better. All you need to do, FO, is sign one big name who WILL help, and the fans will be happy. Bringing in scrubs in August will not help us get better. Change your tune. You can figure out how to do it now, as I said, Hurney has his moments with the financials.

I am not a Hurney lover........building only through the draft concept has no merit if you have several glaring weaknesses. It liking winning through passing and not having a qb.

From what I read the new TV contract goes in effect after the 2013 season so it will impact the cap in 2014 not 2013. The cap will likely be higher next year but the big jump due to TV contracts is the year after.

We didn't do that last year and won't again this year as well. Spending judiciously in free agency and not going hog wild is very different than not spending at all. We picked up a number of key guys last year and had to bring in a ton more during the year due to injuries. Some of those guys like Shirley are still on the roster.

I think when you go 1st round FA's, you are bidding on a market before the price has been set. If you have lots cap well then you can dictate the market since you have to spend. If you dont have cap room then you wait and be as patient as possible looking for the right guys.

we have at least one stand out player at every set of positions (QB, RB, OL, DL, DB, etc), do u really expect us to have a high caliber player at every position? its just not possible in the NFL, there isn't enough money to go around. also have u considered how much we are going to have to pay cam in 3 years?

u demand us to bring in high priced stars but look what happened when we did that? ken lucas? mike wahle? got 2 quality years out of them and then they were worthless.

look at how much the bears dropped on peppers. guess what: he STILL half asses it as much as he did here. u think a guy like nicks is going to be giving it his all in tampa? he has a ring and enough guaranteed money to live off his entire life, what does he have to play for?

there seem to be many posters here up in arms over the fact that we aren't going to make a "splash" (fuging retarded term btw) in free agency this year, but yet nobody seems to be listing the players we should be bringing in.

vjax, nicks, super mario? if u really thought we could bring guys at their cost ur flat out delusional. there simply isn't enough money. then theres guys like garay, stephen cooper, etc. we will def be getting guys like them, we sign players of their caliber every season (capable role players). signing them on the first 2 days of free agency doesn't make any sense though.

so who exactly do you guys want us to sign that falls between high priced superstar and capable role player?

Correct P55, it takes effect in 2014, the cap will be relatively flat till then. which was expected. The Panther's in turn are going to be in cap hell till that ESPN TV contract hits. The Panther's cap situation is only going to be worse next season.

    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
