I probably go Quadrophenia as well except that it never made the stage or screen, thereby not technically a "rock opera" because it had no theatrical production behind it. Yes, in 1979, there was a British film made that was very remotely based on the music. And as much as I love The Who and this great, very underrated album...

... I'm going Rocky Horror. I've seen Hair, Jesus Christ- Superstar, Tommy and I'm not even sure Rocky Horror could be considered a "rock opera." Nonetheless- it's still my personal favorite.

And while not a rock opera but technically just a musical, Little Shop of Horrors is fuging awesome.

Yeah, I was really thinking story/theme albums, but I was a little too Irish last night and couldn't think....surprised I thought of rock opera.

I'd put Jesus Christ Superstar right up with Quadrophenia.

If you're talking theme albums, Soul Mining by The The is my all time

favorite.
