Panthers Agree With Tolbert On 4 Year Deal

Just because we used our tight ends as fullbacks last season, does not mean fullbacks = tight ends.

Can we at least agree on that? Also, HELL NO to Tolbert lining up at tight end. He's a running back lol

Are you the kinda guy that puts CBs at wide receiver in Madden just because of their speed?

No one is claiming FB = TE.

Shockey's wasn't asked just to be a standard TE last year nor Olsen. Tolbert fits the role they were asked to fill much better. He won't do the standard TE work.

Tolbert will fill the role when Shockey/Olsen were asked NOT to be traditional TEs.

Are you so butt hurt about signing Tolbert because it might mean Stewart is traded despite what Hurney says publicly that you want to pick fights. Lighten up!!!

Woah, LOL. I honestly didn't mean to come off as an asshole. I was just bustin your chops.

It's easy to misinterpret someone's tone on the innernet, it seems.

I understand Shockey/Olsen were asked to play the H-back role last season.

I don't understand what Tolbert has anything to do with the tight end position. Shockey/Olsen playing the role last season shouldn't mean that any fullback we bring in will play a similar role. If we wanted Tolbert to switch between the two positions, he wouldn't be 5'9".

I'll believe it when I see it lol

I like this move. He's strong and fast he can run, catch, block, break tackles, and even tackle. Our special teams really have improved this past week. See tolbert playing some HB,FB,ST, wouldn't be surprise to see him line up at TE.

I don't think this means we're putting Stewart on the trade block, Stewart will eventually resign with us even with D-Will contract. His contract front loaded get cheaper by the year plus isnt the NFL cap figure going raise lot for 2013 season because the new TV contract? we'll have room.

The point us that we used a TE as our fullback much of the time. Using our fullback to block or putting him out for passes is the same thing as putting him in at TE. So he is 2 yards off the line instead of on the line. No big deal. Barnidge and Olsen will be the tight ends, Tolbert will just assume some of the things Shockey did last year.

I agree that as the H-Back, his skill set allows him to pick up the slack in the passing game that Shockey gave us.

Given his size and position he has played, I just doubt that he would be transitioned to a typical in-line TE.....but, that is only my opinion.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
