Order of importance to the panthers this offseason?

Recommended Posts

DT

DE

CB

RB/FB

OL

WR

I think we will look for our immediate Depth from post draft FA

But I expect to land a starter with our 2nd round pick

A WR in the draft would Surprise the hell out of me considering we have robinson and carter this season

I didnt list LB'r at all considering we have Connor comming back.

So Conner is kinda like having an extra pick this season...

If pep stays, he'll sign a long term deal. Keeping that in mind, if pep stays I think it goes like this:

DT

CB/S - A nickel corner is basically a starter in the NFL. If we get a safety we can try moving Wilson to CB. Of course, I would prefer a corner and prevent this shuffling from happening, I'm just saying they could be the same in effect.

OL - OL instead of a specific position because what we need is depth. Someone who can play guard, center and RT isn't as rare as one may think and someone like that will be good for us.

DE - We're only in a pickle if pep leaves. I'm pretty happy with pep and CJ as our starters with Taylor as a relief pass rusher.

QB - I actually think Jake has half the equation to being a franchise QB - the intangibles. However, I think a real franchise QB needs BOTH production and the intangibles, and a franchise QB is apparently what wins championships if you look at the past few years. To that end, I really don't think that Cutler would give us any more chance in winning a championship, because he's just the other side to the coin. Due to the importance of this position, I wouldn't mind grabbing a QB even in the second round if we think he's the guy.

But the draft will go like this:

BPA

:D

That's just what happens outside the first round. A reach for position here (and by reach I mean according to your evaluation of talent and not that bogus Mel Kiper stuff that somehow people think is more valid than the actual picks when his job is to predict what happens) would hurt a lot more than in the first round in that the fall in quality can be bigger.

So for all you guys who think we HAVE to grab a DL, though I agree it's a big need, i don't necessarily think it'll work out that way. We had 2 empty safety spots 2 the year we drafted Beason and we were SURE we would draft one in the first 3 rounds. We didn't grab one till the 7th. It's just not how things work.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
