Warren Sapp Should Be Fired For His 'snitch' Comments

From John Talty of the International Business Times:

...Sapp wasn't willing to back down, though. He took to the NFL Network airwaves, a network owned by the league, to say he was positive that Shockey was the one that initially told the NFL about the bounty system.

"My source that was close to the situation informed me that Jeremy Shockey is the one that was the snitch initially," he said. "I trust my source unequivocally." There are a lot of things wrong with Sapp's comments and should be severely punished, if not fired, for airing them on the NFL-owned television network.

What matters is that someone had the gumption to realize that a bounty system wasn't right and that the league needed to intervene. But who is going to want to come forward when the next scandal develops if a NFL employee is going to publicly shame them as a "snitch."

It's disgusting behavior for the league to allow, especially for an on-air personality. Sapp was undoubtedly hired for his outlandish personality and not his journalistic chops, but it's still embarrassing for any so-called journalist to bash a source as a snitch.

That's not to say that Bountygate is quite at that level of importance, but it still never would have been discovered had someone not gone to the league about it. Sapp, as a former NFL player, should be praising whoever went forward and not attacking him with some pseudo macho jock anger.

I love Sapp as an analyst, but I do think he's crossed the line. At the very least, he should be suspended as not only did he make a slanderous accusation with zero evidence, he did on the NFL Network, which is owned by the league.

blaming your source for bad information is such a NJpanther thing to do. We don't forgive NJ for being a dumbass, the NFL shouldn't forgive Warren Sapp. That is, if the NFL actually sees something wrong here in the first place.

I think a firing may be harsh. I think they need to sit down with him and remind him that he's not an analyst, he's an official NFL analyst and employee, and that his words carry more weight because of it.

I actually like Sapp as an on air personality...this crossed a weird line I can see termination being an option.

This.

I've always like his boisterous, almost stupid personality on the network, especially on Sunday mornings to complement the always pissed off and dour Faulk.

He pretty much went to the air and slandered a current player in relation to a very important event going on with the NFL.

Maybe suspended, but I doubt he gets fired.

Honestly would rather see him stay too.

I actually think that......

......actually I don't care at all

you thought enough to post

is it really much different than guys like schefter, mortenson, etc who throw vague sh*t against the wall and see if it sticks as 'insider info'?

good point, drawing a line with reporting and slander though

So is Sapp a snitch now?

another good point...if you asked for his definition of a 'snitch' , probably yes.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
