we had initial falloff from griffith and peppers, but guys came in pretty quickly and started producing. you have to look at the affect those guys had on our team, not their later success with other teams, as tons of variables go into success/failure on different squads.

looking at the effects of their voids on our team though? moose, hands down. ever since he left for chicago we have struggled to find a number two receiver to compliment steve smith. moose was good when he came back in 2008 but he still wasn't a prime number two. hell we still don't have one.

ummm, moose was our #1 receiver, and smitty replaced him. it took us 8 years after losing griffith to have another 1000 yard rusher

i'm just working on a bottle of bourbon and howard griffith was the goddamn man and i'm sick of all these fuging post superbowl fans that think of moose only as a #2 receiver

My only beef is that even if we didn't lose Griffith he would have retired like over ten years ago anyway so to say we haven't recovered to this day doesn't make much sense to me. Plus Hoover led us to a decade of power-running fox ball so I think he did just fine for us.

during his time here absolutely, i'll give you that. by 2005 it was smitty. moose was second fiddle by that point (though not by too much) and his departure left a void at WR2.

i see what you're getting at though.

how many superbowls did hoover win?

howard griffith turned anthony johnson into a 1000 yard rusher. hoover couldn't do that for foster who was a much better running back imo.

i like hoov, but he was no griffith. griffith was the cog that allowed denver to boast a running game that got elway over the hump

edit: i won't say foster was a much better RB, but he was better than johnson

that's why moose left. that and the huge contract. huge contract + #1 receiver. but for some reason he never could duplicate what he did with jake.

i salivate at what our game would be like with smitty, a prime moose and cam going in to next season.

but losing griffith sent our run game into a spiral that wasn't salvaged until we got stephen davis, and after him, deangelo

terrell davis did not deserve his superbowl mvp. elway did, but griffith earned it.

Griffith was drafted in the ninth round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, but never played a regular-season game for the Colts. Griffith made his NFL debut with the Los Angeles Rams in 1993. He played two seasons with the Rams, and then played two seasons with the Carolina Panthers after being selected in the 1995 NFL Expansion Draft.

In 1997, Griffith joined the Denver Broncos, and played five seasons for the Broncos primarily as a blocking back for Terrell Davis. He didn't get very many rushing attempts, but was often used as a receiver out of the backfield, recording 27 receptions in 1996 and 26 in 1999. With the Broncos, Griffith won two Super Bowl rings in Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII. Griffith was a big contributor in the Broncos Super Bowl XXXIII win, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the game. He also made a key 23-yard reception in the final quarter of Super Bowl XXXII, setting up Denver's final touchdown of the game. While playing for the Denver Broncos, Howard earned the nickname The Human Plow due to his extremely successful blocking for Terrell Davis.

Griffith was forced to retire from the NFL at the start of the 2002 season, due to a neck injury sustained in the 2001 preseason that caused him to miss the entire 2001 campaign. His final totals over his 11 NFL seasons include 351 rushing yards and three touchdowns, along with 122 receptions for 844 yards and nine touchdowns.

just a little wiki background for the huddlers that have never heard of howard griffith

Think you given Griffith lil to much praise. Do you honestly believe Griffith would had made Anthony Johnson or Biakabutuka a 1000 yard rusher each year if he stayed? extremely doubtful.

Terrel Davis was much much better then either of our RB at the time. Denver was much better team then us. You make it sound like only reason Denver won back to back super bowl was because of Griffith.

Peppers leaving hurt us more then Griffith, Kasey leaving probably hurt more too.
