Rivera Doesn't Foresee 'retribution' Versus The Saints. (Nfl.com Article)

The league's investigation into the Saints' bounty program revealed that Carolina quarterback Cam Newton was among those targeted by Saints players during the 2011 season. The intent was to take him out.

The Saints have been exposed and must eventually return to the field to face the very teams and players they marked for injury.

"I'd be surprised if there's any retribution, I really would," Panthers coach Ron Rivera told ESPN.com on Wednesday at the NFL Annual Meeting.

"When we play them, it's not going to be about that. It's going to be us playing them trying to win our division. And that's what it should be. It should be about the game, and not what happened."

First mistake by New Orleans: Pinpointing a lion such as Newton, who will burn to torch the Saints' defense deep into the decade.

There will be retribution. The entire team hates the Saints. After all this has come out they're going to march in there ready to take heads off. I expect an absolute killing.

I dont know it will be so much about retribution but I suspect there will be a lot of locker room fodder and some some extra pep in their step. I can see a very orchestrated Smitty touchdown celebration with a fake tackle and wallet/payout. Hopefully it will rival the Minnesota boat thing he did a couple years back.

Rivera is saying what I would expect any good coach to.

We will be playing with a chip on our shoulder. We always play those scumbags hard but will be sending a message. You think steve smith was vocal in the 2 games last year before all this went down...just wait.

maybe not direct retribution, but yeah, like others have said, increased hatred. Hopefully will lead to Panthers putting on a beatdown of epic proportions

Coach Rivera won't be thinking revenge, but the players will.

In terms of winning and playing tough, sure I hope.

Retribution makes me think they will be intentionally trying to injure players. I personally don't see that happening.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
