N4S720's Mock Draft V1.0

Love Gilmore but #9 is way to high. Better players will/should be on the board.

If Worthy is there in the 2nd, I'm sure they'll take him in front of Reyes.

Though I do agree we need a PR/KR I think unless its Adams, we'll take one of the 6th round picks. Just my opinion.

Like the Trevathan, Datko and Butler picks.

Dislike taking Burfict in the 6th. Imo I only want Burfict if he's UDFA, where there is little risk in taking him.

I thought about Gilmore being a reach, but you know, I could see us sliding back to pick him up too. I've watched him play at Carolina his entire career. With some coaching, he'll has an infinite upside.

Also, I was looking to make a mock that wasn't a carbon copy of all the others I've read here.

Yea, because our biggest needs are so obvious (DL, secondary primarily, depth at LB and OL) most mocks are going to be very similar for the first couple rounds. It's commendable to make one that stirs it up a bit. I like Gilmore a lot, but not at #9.

Like Gilmore, but would love to have him later if possible. Don't think Reyes gives us anything more than what we got in 3rd round last year.

Like Hilton (Adams or Rainey, even Demps late?) would love speed out of backfield/slot that PR as well. Not sure we need to draft OL depth anymore with FA signings. Just not sure we get more than one starter out of this draft and we should be able to get at least 2.

Not only his 40 time. Its his combination of size, speed and tackling. Receivers are getting bigger so you need bigger faster corners.

You saw what happened to Munnerlyn all year. I can't get that image of him getting tea bagged and manhandled by Megatron out of my head.

What is that people see in Gilmore that they can't find in Janoris or Dre?

He's a better athlete than Dre - better top speed and change of direction skills. No off the field problems unlike Jenkins. Overall, Gilmore's just a cleaner prospect.

I'll give you that he's a better athlete. But if Gilmore has better change of direction skills than Dre you are not seeing it in coverage. They are both similar prospects but Dre is stronger and better tackler, better at recognizing plays in front of him and their coverage skills are equal to me. Actually, I might even give the nod to Dre, Gilmore got beat more. As far as speed, Dre can close on plays fast and he isn't missing as many tackles as Gilmore. As far as comparison to Janoris, yes he is a "cleaner" prospect but Janoris is more skilled corner and his ability to shut down top WRs is unparalleled in this draft.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
