Carolina-Chuck's Mock 3.0

In this mock, I have us trading back up into the first with the Patriots for their 27th pick. I don't know exactly what the cost for trading back up is, so I'm just guessing: (2013) 1st, (2012) 2nd, and (2012) 4th.

Like in my other post, I mentioned about wishing we pull something like what the Packers pulled in 2009, where they took Raji at 9th, and took Matthews at 26th. They struck gold there and it set their team into the future. Ironically, we hold the 9th pick like the Packs and would trade up with the Patriots just one spot under. Also, coming from a 6-10 record the previous year but its not like it means anything. Just wanted to get it out there. But here it goes....

1. (9): Fletcher Cox DT Mississippi State 6'4", 298lbs

I think Brockers have more room to grow in the pro, but I believe Cox is the safer pick here at 9th. Also, Cox can step right into a position that we need, unlike Brockers who would be playing the same position as Edwards.

1.(27): Chandler Jones DE Syracuse 6'5", 266lbs

I was debating between Jones, Perry, and Andre Branch here, but decided to take Chandler. I believes this kid is the sleeper in this draft imo, and could make a huge impact like a Aldon Smith. I know that he could fall to the 40th pick, but he and Branch been creating some buzz lately. Many mocks have Jones and Branch in the first also. So with Cox and Jones, we'll be able to have the pressure that they have been talking about. Heck, Chandler is the brother of "Jon Bones Jones UFC"!

5. (143): Travis Lewis OLB Oklahoma 6'1", 246lbs

I don't see Terrell Manning making to here in the fifth, so Lewis is probably the best linebacker available. He will add LB depth and be a great ST player.

6. (180): Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M 6'4", 223lbs

Good WR with great size who we could groom behind Lafell and Gettis.

6. (207) Cliff Harris CB Oregon 5'11", 175lbs

CB depth and great return man.

7. (216): Shawn Powell P Florida State 6'4", 248lbs

Don't see any punter where we can add through FA, so the Panthers will definitely need to address this position in the draft, or we'll have to make a trade for Brady to come punt for us.

Get ready for some DEFENSE CAROLINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that is the CB we draft we'll be in trouble. Like the 1st 3 players you picked but we NEED a legit #2 corner IMO.

i think Rivera and Hurney likes who we have on the team.

They have shown little interest to the cb position.

The only cbs worth taking in the first two rounds are: Claiborne, Gillmore, Kirk and JJ.

All of them aside of JJ, are going to be gone and I dont think any other cbs are worth taking that we dont already have on this team.

Apart from Hogan, who is an uncertainty imo, I don't think the other guys on the roster are #2 material, so we need someone to at least compete with Hogan.

Josh Robinson, Trumaine Johnson, Dennard, Casey Hawyard(who I'm high on compared to others) can be good #2 guys opposite Gamble.

I think all of the guys mentioned above, Denard may be the best.

But, Denard's is still similar to Munnerlyn, Hogan, and Butler in size.

I don't think Hurney would draft another player like who he already have on the team.

Remember that as good as Carlos Rogers was last year, the Panthers didnt even take a look at him.

If anyone in this draft, it would be Claiborne, Kirk or Gillmore, all of who should be gone early.

Totally trying this.

As far as the mock. I like it, but the trading up part kills me. I don't want to trade up. Trade down. DOWN. Not up anymore. =/

lol.

I think if you could trade up and have two major impact players, you have to do that, than trading down for three or four mediocre players.

    • Someone correct me- doesn't Dave have a six year contract??? I think Dan Morgan does as well..... that's the price you have to pay once you get a rep for firing HCs....
    • Brother re-check that guarantee...my page shows 30mill.....thats means he's staying in my book for at least til the end of 2026.  Im going to be my normal honest self, besides watching like half of the SB, I didn't know the guy. My guess is Panthers have a "planned model of paying players" and they almost had to spend a chunk of space on a DLman after Dbrown injury season gave them a nightmare out-come of worst D in NFL scoring. Once Milton got above Dbrown payments, they went with the plan B. A player whom the "co-GM" put his name with. Brad said turk would not be a problem off-field and leader, which the Panthers need badly. I dug in with the google-fu, I found out  I also found him playing lots of NT, which was shocking given the small frame. He seems ready for a bigger role and had a great SB too. IDK, I feel Dan Morgan was dead set on not going into this season without more DL depth and its there. The real deal is this, nearly all FA take one year to "adjust". I think turk is trying too hard and causing injuries as a result for his contract. Dbrown called turk "strong as hell" and I know for a fact Dbrowns has insane core and strength numbers. They lift together with the 50 LB difference...... you always lift with a guy who's similar in strength cause you can leave on the 8 wheels, let the other guy lift while you rest and go after him.  I do wish he had a better beginning to his panther career, 3 games for him to do so and it would cover up the low points if he made a few plays.... Again it felt like they almost had to make move/spend $$$ and Morgan was going to have DL depth this season no matter what...My best guess.
