Gotswag?'s Mock Draft

1st Round - (DE) - Quinton Coples, UNC

Assuming Claibourn was selected already, we will get Coples. He will give us a very good DE tandem with Charles Johnson and immediately improve our pass rush. With Coples abilities to play DT, it just makes this pick the most sense. Sure their are questions about him, but their is no questioning his talents and Riveras ability to motivate guys. I think he is too good to pass up on and would be a great pick IMO.

2nd Round - (CB - Janoris Jenkins)

I keep hearing buzz more and more about this kid falling. I can see it happening. Probably the #2 rated CB in the draft, but his off the field trouble will scare a lot of teams away, but will we wont shy away. Will fill a need and Coach Rivera will give this kid every chance to prove the critics wrong. I would be thrilled to get this guy in the 2nd round and its becoming more and more likely that it will happen. Would be an absolute HUGE get in the 2nd round.

4th Round - (WR/KR) Joe Adams, Arkansas

LOVE this kid. He immediately becomes both our kick and punt return man. He also becomes a very good weapon as a slot receiver. With Steve Smith getting older(but still competitive), and two big receivers in LaFell and Gettis..Adams would fit in perfectly IMO. If youve seen him play, this lil dude can take it to the house anytime he touches the football. WIth the weapons in our offense, Adams would just add to it and give us an eventual replacement for Steve Smith.

5th Round - (QB) Russell Wilson, NC State/Wisconsin

Say goodbye to Jimmy Clausen. We knew that already but this just makes it official. Wilson's skill set fits this offense and although he is short, the kid is a beast. WIth Cam starting and Andersen already in the fold, some might question as to why Panthers go QB here. SImple answer - What if Cam goes down? Not talking just this season but in seasons to come. Develop Wilson as the backup incase you know...Cam goes down. If Wilson was 6-5, hed be a first round pick. Hes a steal in the 5th round, so I take Wilson here.

6th Round - (P) Drew Butler, Georgia

An explanation really not needed here. Fills a need and Butler is worth it.

6th Round compensation - (DE) Donte Paige-Moss, UNC

At times, I felt this kid had more talent than Coples. Truth is, if DPM stays at UNC one more season, he becomes a first round pick next year. I would take this gamble. He could also play some OLB if needed. Very fast, very strong. Another pick RIvera would have to mature though.

7th Round - Best OL available

    • Agreed.  Unless a DE is a Julius Peppers type, it takes a couple of years to really develope.  I am hoping we can get one to go with Prince and Scourton.  Or another Interior Dlineman might work as well.
    • Great work Dan. This is the first time in a long time heading into day 1 of the draft that I don’t care which way we go.
    • I don't think it's about Bryce's ego. I think it's about Tepper's. Bryce was Tepper's draft pick. Everything that's been done has been to protect the image.  New HC with a shiny contract fired after he loses interest immediately after he supposedly drafted his guy. He can't make an offense for him because he's the QB that fits his style of offense. Bryce's rookie season is one of the worst in history. It was obvious he wasn't ready. He was named starter without any real camp competition. No real preseason reps. Coach keeps playing him despite terrible play.  A new coach and GM are hired on the condition that Bryce is the guy. No searching for a new QB. It's Bryce or else.  Bryce is benched year 2 for multiple games, replaced by Dalton who stunk it up proving he's washed up, then Bryce comes back in after Dalton injures his thumb and finishes the season. Dalton's contract is up, plenty of younger, higher upside FAs available. Dalton is brought back 2 years guaranteed as a "mentor". Jack Plummer, so bad in 24', brought back to camp in 25' and lo and behold, he's still terrible and has no business being on a field.  Other QBs brought in, the most recognizable being Hooker. All those brought in so bad even the PS can't hold them.  And now, after 3 years of bottom tier QB performance, with Dan saying we need to improve our QB room, we bring in a QB that's not passed for over 2500 yards in either of his 2 seasons as a starter, before he's benched and sent to the life of being a backup.  The common denominator in all of this is there's never been any real competition here, even when it was justified. After last year, it's debatable if he's starting QB material. Good moments and horrific moments. From one minute to the next, you don't know what you're gonna get.  So if you ask yourself why some of us feel bringing in KP is a joke, it's because it looks how it's always looked. That everything being done is to prove that David Tepper was right when he made the choice to draft Bryce and everything done since has been to protect that decision. Bringing in another QB with even the potential to challenge Bryce was always out of the question.
