Best Drafting Teams

CRA

Recommended Posts

It wasn't a very good article. A mile wide and an inch deep. Polian only looked at the last three drafts and gave the best value pick and any "cornerstone" picks. There were three classifications of teams: the best, the best of the rest, and the rest of the rest. The Panthers fell in the third category.

Our best value pick in the last three drafts was deemed to be DT Sione Fua (#97 overall). No explanation given.

Our cornerstone pick was obviously Cam. Polian says he must progress from being an attraction to winning QB, but he is off to a great start. Oh and shockingly he says there is work to do on defense.

Here's the thesis for this article:

Below you'll find a listing of which NFL teams have been the best at identifying and drafting talent in the draft since 2009. Along the way, I've singled out some of the blues (cornerstone players) and the top value picks -- which accounts for player talent relative to draft position -- for 31 of the NFL's teams.

Here's what he has to say about the Panthers, whom he groups with the "rest of the rest" (bottom category):

Carolina Panthers

Best value pick: DT Sione Fua (2011: Rd. 3, 97)

Cornerstone pick: QB Cam Newton (2011: Rd. 1, 1)

Newton must progress into a winning quarterback, not just an attraction. But he's off to a great start. There is work yet to do on defense.

He ranks the Ravens, Lions, Packers, Giants and 49ers as "the best".

Article is stupid for only doing the last 3 years, but I have to agree during those three years the Panther's have had only one first rounder because of trades. Isn't hard not to put them in that category as the rest of the rest.

If you look at the number of starters found and the amount of players still on the Panther's team and other teams starting, the Panther's are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL over the Hurney's tenure as GM.

anyone trying to argue one way or another about hurney in only a handful of paragraphs is egregiously oversimplifying this.

i think it speaks volumes that richardson is keeping hurney as a general manager. richardson fired his own two sons for underperforming - you think he doesn't have a handle on whether or not his GM is doing an effective job?
