The Mock Draft

Here is what i think should happen with our draft picks later this week. First though, I think we will trade our first and fifth round picks to the Jets in return for their first and second round picks. The Jets may be interested in Melvin Ingram and Hurney mentioned trading back as a possibility. I think that's exactly what we'll do.

RD1(16) -- CB Stephon Gilmore. Here is a guy who could come in and bring an immediate impact. That is the kind of players that Rivera said he is looking for with our first few picks. If Gilmore isn't available here, look for us to take someone like Kirkpatrick.

RD2(40) -- DT Brandon Thompson. This is another guy who can come in and start right away. He would be a great run suffer and would fill a huge position of need. If Worthy or Still are still available, they would be other options here.

RD2(47) -- OLB Bobby Wagner. Wagner could split playing time with Thomas Davis until Davis' knee goes out again. Then he could be our starter.

RD4(104) -- WR/PR Joe Adams. I would really like to see us take Adams here. If he isnt available, we could take someone like T.Y. Hilton. Either would allow us to send Armanti packing. Armanti did not show any hope at PR and Joe Adams could turn that around right away.

RD6(180) -- OL Ronald Leary. He would add good depth to our OL which was a very injury-prone position last year.

RD6 -- P Drew Butler. This is definitely a position we should fill in the draft and Butler could be our punter for the next 15 years. Rivera also played with his dad.

RD7 -- TE George Bryan. Here is a guy I watched play all year and I think he has loads of potential. Other than the fact he runs slower than your grandma's scooter, he has very reliable hands and would be a great blocking TE.

We would need to add depth at OL in UDFA and maybe even LB because as we learned, you can never have too many of them. I look for this draft to be very important to the future of our team. Rivera said he wanted immediate impact players in the first few rounds, so that's what I tried to find. Please give me your opinion.

Don't think we need to draft 2 WRs... we rarely went with more than 3WRs... Smitty/LaFell/Gettis... then Pilares/Manos/Adams

Well I look for Pilares and Adams to be more return guys. Also, I don't expect Chris Manno to get anywhere near the WR position. He is more a ST guy. I see it more as Smitty/Lafell/Adams and Gettis/Fuller/Pilares.

It's not bad, but I am not sold on Gilmore as a 1st round guy. Love the Wagner and Joe Adams picks. No to George Bryan too. Blocking tight ends are a dime a dozen. Rather spend the pick on a sliding prospect or a developmental pass rusher or lineman.

Bryan could definitely be a recieving TE, just not with the break away speed. Like a Kevin Boss type player. IN 4 years at NCST, he had 126 Rec,1323 yards, and 17 TDs

Why?

I like wagner, but would perfer perry and jenkins if they are available. As far as the wrs if we cant get floyd, blackmon or wright no one else upgrades our wr corp. Then id like to upgrade oline depth in the 4th punter in 6th then w/e on the rest.

So your philosophy is if you can't get a WR in the first round, don't draft one?

Haha you guys are harsh. The "punter idea" is actually very likely. Gilmore will go in the top 20, like it or not and from what I've heard, the panthers like him. Yeah, I would whether have Still or Worthy in the 2nd as well, but they won't be available. TE is a position of need unless we resign Shock.

    • You're correct. But PFF does indeed use advanced stats to come up with their grades. Not trying to turn this into a debate about PFF (at all because it's been done ad nauseum), but here is how PFF explain it:   GRADES VS. STATS We aren’t grading players based on the yardage they rack up or the stats they collect. Statistics can be indicative of performance but don’t tell the whole story and can often lie badly. Quarterbacks can throw the ball straight to defenders but if the ball is dropped, you won't see it on the stat sheet. Conversely, they can dump the ball off on a sequence of screen passes and end up with a gaudy looking stat line if those skill position players do enough work after the catch. PFF grades the play, not its result, so the quarterback that throws the ball to defenders will be downgraded whether the defender catches the ball to notch the interception on the stat sheet or not. No amount of broken tackles and yards after the catch from a bubble screen will earn a quarterback a better grade, even though his passing stats may be getting padded. The same is true for most positions. Statistics can be misleading. A tackle whose quarterback gets the ball out of his hands quicker than anybody else may not give up many sacks, but he can still be beaten often and earn a poor grade. Receivers that are targeted relentlessly could post big-time numbers but may offer little more than the product of a volume-based aerial attack. https://www.pff.com/grades So PFF uses stats to come up with player grades and rankings.
