Draft Rumor Station

Recommended Posts

It's getting to be that time of the offseason where right before the draft rumors start coming out of the woodwork. A lot, or I would say most of these rumors are probably purposely leaked in order to disinform other teams as this draft is like a 32 man chess game, but some information is just naturally leaked because people have a natural tendency to be babblemouths.

So I thought it would be good to create a thread compiling draft rumors that hit the general populous of football fans.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer tweets that the Cincinnati Bengals will not be taking a guard #17 overall, which essentially rules out those of us that have them drafting Stanford G David DeCastro.

Instead, Reedy believes that the Bengals will consider: WR Michael Floyd, S Mark Barron, OLB Melvin Ingram, DE Quinton Coples, and DT Michael Brockers.

It’s interesting that Dre Kirkpatrick is not on that list considering that cornerback seems to be an area where they could use some additional help, but the Bengals did sign Jason Allen and Terence Newman during the offseason. While I’m sure that the Bengals would love to have these guys, there’s actually a chance that none of the could be available to them, which is why we elected to give them DeCastro at #17 in our recent 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Jaguars Could Move Down Via Eagles or Jets

Published April 22, 2012

By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made no secret that they are open to trading down in the 2012 NFL Draft. Sources have revealed the the Jags' ideal draft would be to move down to pick up another second-day pick while targeting a wide receiver or defensive end. If they stay at No. 7 overall, it seems they would be happy to select South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram. If, however, they move down, they would likely miss out on Ingram, but they would be happy to land a wide receiver like Notre Dame's Michael Floyd or Baylor's Kendall Wright.

There are two teams that seem to be interested in dealing with the Jaguars. The New York Jets are said to covet Ingram. According to the draft trade chart, the Jets would have to give up their second-round pick and a fourth-round pick. They already dealt their fourth-rounder for quarterback The Golden Calf of Bristol, so it would probably be a 2013 fourth-rounder, or perhaps a veteran player on their roster.

The other team that could be a trade partner is the Philadelphia Eagles. They are rumored to badly want Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. The Eagles love taking defensive linemen early, and Cox has the pass-rushing ability that Philadelphia desires on the interior of its line. It seems like a stretch for Cox to fall to the Eagles pick at No. 15, and he could easily go ninth overall to the Carolina Panthers.

It’s unknown whether Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be selected with the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh choice in the 2012 NFL draft. If the converted receiver remains on the board at No. 8, it’s believed that the Dolphins will be inclined to take him.

On the surface, the decision would seem to flow from first-year offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, the architect of Tannehill’s transition to quarterback in College Station. But a league source tells PFT that the man pushing hardest for Tannehill is owner Stephen Ross.

Ross desperately wants to turn the page on yet another embarrassing offseason, which has seen the Dolphins fail to hire Jeff Fisher as coach and Peyton Manning as quarterback. They also whiffed on new coach Joe Philbin’s pupil with the Packers, Matt Flynn, even though it’s unclear whether the Dolphins decided they didn’t want Flynn or Flynn decided he didn’t want the Dolphins, or a little bit of both.

I guess it's a given now that the Dolphins are going to take Tannehill if he's there.

It's looking more and more like we won't be able to get Fletcher Cox.

unfortunately it's starting to look like a possibility. also saw this

Rumor we heard from Jax about Sea mving up may not be a rumor. Heard from a source 2day #Seahawks may try and move up. To get Fletcher Cox.

Radio personality for KJRAM 950 in Seattle.

Even if I don't like it, I can understand the Eagles moving up to get him, but if this rumor is true about Seattle, then fug them, seriously. They almost never whiff on any defensive tackle they acquire. They even made Alan Branch look decent last year.

    • Panthers are down by 2 TDs at half. Mike White is brought in in the 3rd and Panthers win by 30
    • The Dolphins are the example of not tieing a team to an overrated QB who can't carry a team. They were so stacked and watched most of their talent go elsewhere so they could pay a mediocre and hurt starting QB too much money. They looked so good beating up bad teams at their peak and couldn't hang with any of the other playoff bound teams. I wonder if getting tossed aside will wake up their HC or if he continues to struggle elsewhere after his early success.  It would be funny if we weren't doing a weaker and dumber version of their build.
    • It was even worse than that. The following game we were also shutout. Pretty sure.  That Green Bay game, then two goose eggs to end the year.  Followed by the wonderful first two games of 2024. So 4 straight stinkers.    I looked at the box of that GB game a few weeks ago. It was 10 points and around 100-110 yards passing in the first half.  He had two TDS the 4th quarter. Around or close to 200 yards passing in the second half. It was mostly a great 2nd half.    This year’s Dallas game, he played well or turnover free for 4 quarters, had no numbers really but I thought it was his best game. Along with the Atlanta game at the end of 2024. I think the agreement Bay game was at home too, it won’t be this time.  I have to root for him to show something more in these last games  because I think they are going to keep him - so he really needs to be better.
