Dont get a pistol grip only. You are severly limiting yourself. Go standard 18" barrel with an extended tube and a full stock. If u cant easily manuver that you have no business handling a firearm.

Been thinking of getting a shotgun for added protection.

I still like by 38 with hollowpoint bullets. Makes a hole about the size of your pinky going in.....and a hole about the size of a basketball going out.

Ok maybe a stun baton. I need something for the girl to feel safe because I am starting to travel more. She has a small pepper spray can but I want it to knock someone out.

Panthro if you're not comfortable with getting her a firearm at the least you should get her a taser. Not the generic stun gun variety but the name brand. You want to incapacitate the subject. Stun guns wont do it and anyone can fight through oc.

Ok, for my money this is probably the best all around shtgun for defense. I have had dealing with these and once you get your paws on it, you'll know.

The SPAS-12. Automatic with a pump action. Sturdy and battle proven. Folding stock so it can go CQB in a nano-second but still be able to stabilize or a longer shot.

After much thought, opinion gathering, and research, I decided on the Benelli Supernova Tactical.

In a word.... Don't.

I know Benelli is one of the best Shotgun manufacturers around, that's why I bought a Benelli Nova (w the Real Tree camo - looks awesome).

However, it will NOT fire 3-1/2" shells.

I sent it back to have it "fixed" and when it returned it was exactly the same.

In short, the hook on the bolt that grabs the rim of the shell and pulls it back in the ejection port DOESN'T GRAB.

The port itself is barely longer than 3-1/2" to begin with.

I always end up jamming a shell in the port on top of an empty shell that is still in the barrel.

From there I have to take the barrel off in order to remove the empty and then reassemble.

It IS a nice shotgun, fires 2-3/4" and 3" like a champ, but if you are looking to shoot 3-1/2" for duck hunting or something get a Remington.
