Sleeper De 6-7 Round Prospect

BEASTfromdaEAST

Recommended Posts

His name is Josue Ortiz out of Harvard University. I am from the East Coast and actually got to see him play this year in person and he was dominant against the talent he was put against (Ivy League). In their program he is listed as their starting DT. They shifted up and down the DL throughout the game and he just doesn't stop......BEASTED

Anyways browsing around about the draft I landed on a Gil Brandt article about smaller scholl draft prospects and here was this kid on the short list. http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/04/17/rounding-up-workouts-of-four-small-school-prospects/

Josue Ortiz-DE

4.73 40 yrd dash.........FASTER than Coples & Ingram

38 1/2 vert. jump.........WHOA! Same as Nick Perry

7.19 3-cone drill..........Respectful

4.37 shuttle...........Not bad

31 reps.............Strong

The guy isn't being looked at by many teams but with the 2 6ths and a 7th we have i mean the guy is definition of low risk HIGH Reward. He has the measurables you want Big, Fast, Quick, High Motor & Smart. You line this kid up on the end or in the middle on passing downs and tell him to go get the QB........he's getting there

Defensive end is one position that doesn't really produce much at the later rounds in the draft but if we do go defensive end in the seventh then Josue Ortiz looks like a solid option to me. My first option would be Frank Alexander as I think he will be a solid rotational player and I also think that he has the potential to be a starter. However, Ortiz is definitely my second option. In my opinion Ortiz is best player in the 250 lb. and below range, and yes that includes Andre Branch (as well as Jacquies Smith, Tim Fugger, Kournei Brown, Kaelin Burnett, Jacob Lattimer, and Louis Nzegwu).

Man, I know the kids gave him a hard time growing up. :o Reminds me of the movie Meet the Parents. :D

I like this prospect, Ortiz. Bring him in.

I like Frank Alexander too. The heart problem kind of scares me but not that bad from the 6th round on. I would take Branch over this kid any day of the week but the others, yea sure what the hell. Give him a chance.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
