Gettin' Giddy 'bout David Gettis - Fan's Analysis****a Good Read****

Recommended Posts

Why do people going "OH THE PANTHERS MAY ACTUALLY HAVE A LEGITIMATE NUMBER 2 IN GETTIS ALREADY ON THEIR ROSTER!"? Doesn't anyone think Lafell with an entire season starting will be productive? I sure do. I'm all over the Gettis bandwagon, and I think it's possible he overtakes Lafell's spot at number 2, but even if he doesn't, and doesn't recover from his injury or w/e, we still have a very good receiver across from Smith.

I see the WR depth chart a working out a bit different than the standard "Madden" wideout depth of having a #1, #2 and the #3 guy in the slot. Thinking we are going to be moving all three of them around alot. Mostly due to the fact that we all know how Smith would have broken every receiving record imaginable if he were playing in the same setup as Wes Welker,

I somewhat agree. I think Lafell stepped up last year but I suspect most people want to make sure that there is sustained production. Lafell should be our number 2 and hopefully Gettis gets plenty of opportunities as well.

He also has great hands and Size. Not just Speed. He was productive with mediocre QB play. Gettis with Cam could be a match made in heaven. Like PB and J. Like Beer and hot wings, Like a steak and a BJ.

He is many of those things you say, but why do you say he has great hands?

Because he does. Watched him plenty and live in the 2010 season. He plucked several balls out of the air. That two TD game he had vs SF, he played the CB and didn't show his hands until the ball was a second away, then he pulled his hands out and it was too late for the CB to notice and react. He's also a very decent route runner. Given his speed and size, which you can't teach, he just has that.

This is why I believe he could potentially dethrone LaFell. Not a knock on Jojo though. He's definitely a decent wide out. If he keeps going forward like he has, then Carolina has a good problem on it's hands at the WR position.

I was a Gettis fan the day we drafted him and I wont forget all the doubters back then I even had a bet with Squirrel he swore up and down that Gettis would be cut by the end of camp so we wagered a bag of nuts.....that bastard still hasn't sent me my nuts lol..Gettis has elite size and speed, 6'4 and 215lbs

The only people that hate on Gettis and don't realize he's another one of our WR of the future, are the Camwagoners that only witnessed last season and didn't get to see the potential he showed on one of the worst offenses of all time.

I'm really looking forward to see Gettis back 100%. Smith, LaFell and Gettis...I think is a very good set.

and joe adams and greg olsen and jstew or tolbert catching balls out the backfield... and our option runs. our offense could be so much more dynamic than last year which is crazy to think about

I watched those replays a lot. I was very excited for him. He reads defense pretty good and he runs routes pretty well and his hands are good enough. When someone says so and so's hands are great, I generally think more of someone like Olson who will come down with one handed grabs. . or maybe Smitty doing aerials shoving people off him mid air and still making a catch.

I dont think of "didnt show his hands" as a great hands trait. He catches good enough, I dont see the point in exaggerating that. His speed, size, route running, and ability to read a defense were the main reasons he had over 30 hauls from what I watch on replay over and over again. Mostly he caught passes trapped in his chest or by cradling the ball in the basket . . . the plucking not so much, although I really hope that a year away has given him time to work on that.

    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
    • I mean, our TE room does suck but we had other pressing needs and no surefire upgrades in the draft. I was surprised at how many TEs went in the first three rounds. I think most everyone was. You want a guy who projects at least as a guy who has the potential ceiling to be a starter in those rounds and I didn't see 11 of those in this draft. Off the top of my head, I think that's how many TEs went in the first three rounds. It was in that range. That's roughly 10% of the overall picks. Definitely did NOT see that coming with this TE class.
