Beason's thoughts on Nakamura

This is the type of news I want to hear, hopefully he picked up a lot while backing up Ed Reed.

this is also what i'd like to hear. for all we know nakamura is a pro bowl caliber safety (although probably not that good). it doesnt matter how good u are, ur not going to unseat reed from his starter position.

I do not want to cause a stir. But, if these practices are non contact. How can you tell what ability he truly does possess? I can see on his coverage skills, and how quickly he reads plays and such. But we still do not know if he can do the physical stuff.

I do hope he can bring some talent and attitude to the position. Would be nice not to have to worry about our Safety position.

They still have tackling drills of sorts, hitting sleds and body bag-like cones. i'm sure from just things like that u can tell a guy is able to make big hits.

i been listening to bucky brooks' podcast lately and he was talking about how when you get a guy into OTA's you can immediately tell if the player is going to be able to contribute in some way or is a total bust (he was referring to rookies in particular, but i'm sure any new comers to a franchise apply here). could be a particular aspect of his tackling form that beason likes. nakamura is a special teams stud so it wouldnt surprise me if he actually wraps guys up consistently rather than those awful shoulder tackles alot of NFL players in the secondary dish out.

Sure hope he works out for us. In reading about him he is the type of guy that you love to cheer for!!! Beat a bunch of odds just to be in NFL and sure hope he can help our secondary don't think he can hurt it much.

- Linebacker Jon Beason looked strong in his limited work and told me afterward, jokingly, he feels "150 percent, maybe 149."

-- I will be writing about Haruki Nakamura, who is competing for a starting safety job against Sherrod Martin and others, for Friday's newspaper and online. Beason told me that Nakamura "kind of reminds me of [former Panther safety] Chris Harris but with a lot more ability."

Fun fact about Nakamura: he was a national judo champ in the junior division as a kid.

    • For me, no issue going WR - as long as he can tackle when we move him to MLB
    • He was pretty highly touted that year by all the draftniks. But he's one of those small school guys who you do have to pay attention to his workout numbers since he was playing against lower level competition. All his draft hype was about his great athleticism and potential, then he went to the Combine and posted very pedestrian measurable. 5.33 40 time, 29.5" vertical, 26 reps on the bench. Overall he had the 19th ranked athleticism score among DTs that year. No one would've been complaining in hindsight about drafting a DT had we drafted Chris Jones who was picked 8 spots after we drafted Butler.
    • We have one of the best young WR duos in the league with TMac and Coker. Could use a solid vet #3 option, but that's not terribly hard to find. You could make the argument that every other part of the roster needs long term upgrades before WR. OT - Icky injured, Moton aging, big question mark moving forward here Interior OLine - OG is great but center position is a big question mark, with injuries stacking up on Corbett and BC, and Mays being a free agent  (could definitely change though if we re-sign Mays) RB - Dowdle most certainly gone, not suggesting spending a 1st on RB but still, need a replacement here TE - Meh overall, basically have three guys who are backup #2 level TEs, could use a top end starter QB - lol LBer - horrible group, definitely needs upgrades Secondary - Mike Jackson could be playing himself out of our price range and 100% could use a new FS Edge - Scourton looks promising long term but need more here in this unit, obvious weak spot DT - Brown is a beast, but outside of him very thin   WR is the ONE position on the entire roster where we're actually looking great moving forward lol TLDR --> this mock is retarded
