Stephen Davis already experiencing memory loss

Everyone wants to get rich but don't want any consequences. Just doesn't work out that way. I have nothing but respect for Stephen Davis and wish him well. It is sad to hear about this from him and other former players. Everyday decisions that don't seem like a big deal at the time can alter the rest of your life. I don't think it's fair to just solely vilify the nfl. For one the nflpa is utterly worthless and their stance in all this bounty crap has solidified that, retired players may as well not even exist to them. All in all the league does need to focus more attention on former players and research these problems so they can prevent them as much as possible for new players.

I love Davis as a former player. But it has been said over and over again. Once again. Every guy who goes into the NFL knows the dangers of playing football. Stop been dumb and stop blaming the NFL for your health problem. Everyone has health problem and it is a part of life. These lawsuits are pure out BS. These guys get great health insurance for the rest of their life and got payed plenty of good money when they played. But yet now they are suing for money because of their concussion. This is so stupid. The courts should throw them all out. This getting out of hand. Stop blaming the NFL you morons. Either play in NFL and take the risk having future health problems like everyone else does in life or finish college and go on get you a decent paying job in the real world. The NFL use to be a fun sport to watch back in the day. Now you got players suing for money for concussions and everything else and you got current player bitching about wanting more money. This sport is about the money and not the fun of the game anymore. What a shame.

I'd like to ask the players involved in these lawsuits what they hope to accomplish. I know the obvious financial gain, but of you said ok, each of you 2500 players are gonna get a $5 million and bankrupt the NFL and screw over the current and future players as well as the fans, are they ok with that? I just don't understand it.

Obviously they are, same with the Union. The NFL union seems like they want the NFL to collapse.

Without the lawsuits nothing would change at any level. A business only makes changes if it is profitable to do so...or will cost them dearly if they do not. A lot of people at a lot of levels share in the responsibility, but professionals set the standard. They have the docs, specialists, and it does not seem that they were being forthcoming in discussing the risks with the players. They told a player he was ok to go back in. If a doctor says you are ok you want to believe that and think you should. Players want to play. Playing hurt/ with pain is a sign of manhood. Teams used that (and not revealing the risks) for short term gain and what seems total disregard for the players' long term health.

A positive thought............. this might be one important reason for JStew to stay with the Panthers. He may never get to be The guy and break individual rushing records, but he likely will have a longer career and a better quality of life in his old age.

Do you guys really think players knew the long term consequences of concussions 10-15 years ago?

I mean for god sake they didnt even come out of the game

It's really common sense, a game this violent is bound to have consequences down the road. Did they really think their brain hitting their skull was a normal thing? And wound't do any damage?

Hindsight is 20/20. Show me an article or something from 15 years ago talking about the dangers of concussions and I'll believe you

The culture was different back then. I'm under 30, but even I remember hearing commentators talking about guys "getting their bells rung". The expectation was that guys not only could but should play directly after "having their bells rung". You shouldn't try and oversimplify an issue like this.
