PUP only lasts only until week 6.

Besides, he had a tweaked a hamstring.

Yeah, I realize PUP lasts into the season where you can take someone off of it. But what's the need to rush him back. If he is injured and can't perform then putting him onto the field to play isn't going to solve anything.

it's pretty silly to think that gettis won't have a spot on the roster. the only question is where on the depth chart he will be and they've got a ton of time to figure it out. he won't be any further down than 4th on the depth chart when he's activated. don't y'all worry your pretty little heads over it.

At this point, it honestly wouldn't shock me if Gettis didn't even make the team. Granted, that's probably a very long shot, but Rivera has never seemingly been a huge fan of his and with Murphy, Pilares, Adams, Armanti, and Ajreytuauxxxsadfchz getting all the reps they could decide to pull an Otah with him.

Regardless, though, it sure as hell seems like Murphy has the 3rd WR spot all but locked up.

I get the feeling that RR is not an infinite well of patience when it comes to guys not being on the field. I think he has a reasonable time period in his head about how long it should take for a guy to get healthy again, and is willing to continue being patient if it seems progress is being made. But I believe ultimately RR is a bottom line kind of guy, and that if for whatever reason a player is unable or unwilling to get out there, he won't be in RR's locker room for long.

I honestly don't know if that's true. From a talent perspective, I believe Gettis is one of the best receivers, outside of Smith, that we have. But the fact of the matter is that he hasn't even played so much as a Preseason game for Rivera. This team has loaded up on receivers going into camp this year and they didn't do that for no reason. Gettis' spot is far from guaranteed and if 5 receivers have a great camp and preseason, Gettis might find himself playing elsewhere.

If Murphy can pick up our offense in a few days, something tells me it won't be a problem for Gettis.

The staff probably feels it is better to go slow with him and see what we have in our other wideouts. Now if we don't see him by the 3rd preseason game, it might be time to start worrying.

Murphy is probably knows a few routes, it took Steve Smith and Lafell until week 8 to fully know the playbook and feeling comfortable.

Rivera is not getting rid of Gettis. The guy has way too much potential. He has the speed and size to become a star, if not superstar. We've seen how crisp a route he can run during his rookie season. I believe he will be a starter by week 3.

I'm not discounting what Gettis did his rookie year, but being a "crisp route runner" is not something that you can attribute to him. While he did run a few great routes, the one where he broke that DB's ankles for a TD comes to mind, he was by all accounts a fairly sloppy route runner that year. Gettis leaned on his speed and size for most of his production that year.

I kind of see Gettis like a mad scientist sees his inventions. I would like to see Gettis perfect his route running skills to where it becomes his most dangerous weapon. A lot of receivers today tend to use their size and speed as their biggest advantage, but Gettis has potential to have that and route running as a third major advantage. The last great route runner (not that I'm saying there are not good route runners in the league. Smitty is no slouch after all) in my opinion was Marvin Harrison. I believe Gettis has that potential in him.

it won't happen. he's here and his talent is well known. he may not secure the 2nd or 3rd spot but he won't have a spot any worse than 4th. a guy that talented only makes this team better, esp. for the salary he's getting paid. i have no doubts whatsoever that he will be on that roster and get a jersey every game he's healthy.

that said, i'd be surprised if there isn't at least 5 active WRs on game day and it will probably be 6 each week. the guys i think whose roster spots are absolutely secured (or who will be) is smitty, lafell, murphy, and gettis. the guy who wins the PR competition will have one by default as will pilares who will probably have the KR job secured.

that's going to make life hard on some other spots, but the way they have been running things it's hard to think that we won't be going with that many spots given to WRs.

i may have to do a sort of mock 53 man roster broken up by positions rather than players just to see how that works out.

There is nothing new about the routes our WR's run. They are the same as what is run on every other team pro and college. The routes should be in his muscle memory, just needs to get out there and run them.

I am more concerned with the chemistry with Cam. Cam hasn't thrown to him in a year. Ouch.

This.

But, I think the chemistry will come quick and I think Cam is still in his phases in finding what he likes in a WR, I think he will throw to anyone who is open and if they can make things happen he will grow to like them and throw to them. This is why I think its really important a new WR steps up ASAP to grow with Cam. If not we need a WR in the draft and to me that means we are in trouble again because Hurney couldn't pick a WR to save his life.

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh.
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
