Greg Olsen Interview.

Recommended Posts

i liked what he said about chud being flexible and working things to the strengths of the pieces that he has. adapt what you want to do to the talented players you have. don't try and force them into a system. take advantage of all the strengths you have at your disposal and make them all work together.

i also really like the confidence that he has in himself. very much in line with cam in that regard. he thinks of himself as an elite player.

"jeremy who's not here right now." bum bum buuummmm.....

i just can't shake that feeling that right before the season starts shockey is going to sign whatever he was offered. he's an old guy with a lot of TCs under his belt and nothing to force him to go to one this year. getting married in the summer was probably all the incentive he needed to not sign anything until training camps are over. he knows the system and the team. wouldn't take anything to get him back into the swing of things and he'd only make the team better.

I don't think Shockey comes back. The way Olsen is saying it is time fo Barnidge (sp) to step up and it really is. As well as mentionings Tolbert as the replacement. I agree I like shockey but he is holding us back in youth mode, especially when we already have a dominant recieving TE in Greg. I want to see if Gary can take on the #2 reciever TE.

yeah, my head is thinking the same thing. it's just my gut telling me that shockey might be coming back. it's either that or my gut is telling me that 5-6 big tomatoes out of the garden a day isn't really a good thing. it's one of those.

Olsen was freaking clutch his last year with the Bears......Shockey will be an afterthought once the season is over. The debate will be is Graham or Olsen the best TE in our division.

damn it just occured to me how stacked the nfc south tight ends are. when u add veterans like tony g and winslow in atl and TB.

Winslow is with the Seahawks now, didn't mesh with Schiano. They did grab Luke Stocker last year who could develop into a force in his own right.

Olsen needs to stop playing WR and start playing TE. I wish Shockey was still here to show him how it's done. Hopefully, he can learn how to be aggressive from Tolbert because he doesn't play like he weighs 255 pounds.

He only needs to work on his blocking skills, Not much to work on really. This offense is more vertical either way and uses TE's with his skills set.

I loved having Shock last year, but he held Olsen back, and that's how I took Olsen's comments. He said the right words about how they produced as a unit yada yada, but you can tell Olsen thinks he is the man, and wants to proove it this year. We don't need Shockey on the field, maybe we can hire him to walk the sidlines and talk trash

    • I will as soon as you withdraw your fandom from the Patriots. Informative threads are great but all of these estrogen and emotion driven threads you start are ridiculous.
    • Will be there tonight and expect nothing from the Canes. They are soft and won't go after anyone, nor will they respond when, not if, Florida starts bullying them. Not to mention Freddie is in net. I fear this will be an ass-kicking.
    • Is this not a bit contradictory?  Also surely if any of us are smart enough to evaluate what we're seeing in real time, a former NFL QB can at least manage the same.  Especially considering he's basing his analysis on hours (maybe generous?) of reviewing All-22 footage which he can play back over and over again, focusing each time on different position groups, match-ups, progressions, etc. which is simply impossible for a fan to fully assess in real time.  Unless you're actually at the game, we basically only get the QB/O-line in frame during the broadcast and even in that limited window of the field, there is simply too much happening.  I'm usually broadly focusing on Bryce, maybe peeping the footwork (or lack thereof) and just the overall pocket and whether there is any pressure coming.  I'm not able to watch every individual one-on-one o-line match-up on top of it to see who got beat, who didn't pick up a blitz, which o-lineman didn't shift to help double-team, or whatever else. I think the truth is somewhere in between (as is almost always the case).  Knowing the play call, audible, etc. is pretty important when judging individual performances, which is why we should always take PFF grades with a grain of salt.  But yeah we can also get a pretty good overall sense of how a player is performing just from watching the game on the couch on Sundays.  I still think there's a lot of value in a review video like this.  As long as you have the bare minimum media literacy to take the interesting insights while also acknowledging inherent biases from a video like this (i.e. obviously focusing on the good over the bad).
