From my recollection, Nakamura made a couple of good tackles in the Fins game, he didn't get beat on coverage either. If you notice, he's was also very vocal on the field, which is an added quality. He wasn't flashy but solid and to me that's better than what Martin was last year.

I have no problem with Martin starting but he has not shown anything IMO to earn that spot, well at least not in front of Naka.

I haven't seen Nakamura do anything better then Martin. I actual I think Martin has outplayed all the safeties. This seem like "Martin in a contract year and they don't want to pay him". So lets give Nakamura the job.

Yeah, why would they want to pay two Charles Godfrey caliber Ss Godfrey money. Would be hard to extend Martin and not pay him like Godfrey......

Obviously not enough for the coaches to bring in a potential replacement for him, and Rivera has done nothing but praised Godfrey since he got here. Does that answer your question?

The Panthers throw contracts at anyone that walks through the door. They enjoy throwing money at average production. The hardest part of Hurney's job is waking up in the morning.

People on here make it seem as if Hurney doesn't do anything to trim the fat. Some people just don't have any patience. It's like they forget every offseason how young the team is and how short the careers are of the players they're hating on. Hurney can't just replace every one of his young players with free agents just because we aren't winning. If Martin doesn't prove his worth, then he won't be re-signed. Why is everyone so scared that Hurney is going to auto-pilot the management of this team and extend Martin out of convenience? Godfrey getting an extension doesn't mean we are content with having JAGs at every position. You guys crazy.

They need to get rid of Martin. As the other poster pointed out...contract is coming up. No way Carolina would have much of a leg to stand on and not offer him comparable cash to Godfrey. They simply replace him..

Nakamura is not scraps. He was a solid back-up in a team stacked with safeties....and played behind maybe the best safety to ever play the game. He delivered for Bsltimore every chance he was asked to play. He was a good player on a team with great players at his position.

We paid Godfrey because offenses can't see him. He is a secret weapon,they can see Martin so he offers nothing while Naka is all ninja stealth like and sneaks up on the opposition. The panthers have always been fond of safetys who weren't really there.

No S on this team has had a window of play as good as Martin his rookie year.....which is sad.

I find it funny that some people can't see the strategy here. They made a choice and paid CG instead of Martin. Now you bring in a guy cheaper to take his spot. Even thoe he might not be the better player.

They couldn't afford him because they choose to pay Morgan. They couldn't pay them both. So we let Spoon go.
