I'm no genius on the subject... But if this indeed is true, then what's the point of even having a practice squad. I can see them not making game day trips.

I would find it incredibly hard to believe that the PS squad guys are not traveling to IMG in Tampa with the rest of the team though.

Point of practice squad is for practice and grooming...and bodies if you need to add someone to your roster later on. But they don't travel....

This week could be an exception (not sure) since Carolina is displaced for the week but they don't travel to regular road games,

This week is a different animal than most "normal" weeks. PS players don't even get to be on the sidelines during home games; they definitely don't travel to away games. They may be with the team at the IMG facility, but that's probably only to fulfill their game-week duties in practice.

Ok, so if a practice squad player is called up to the supplement the roster, does he get a new contract that equals out to the league minimum, and does that impact this years cap or next years cap?

I believe he's signed as a FA to a new contract. Someone tweet Keiser and ask.

Additionally the new CBA gives any team the right to sign a roster squad player of any other team to a contract for the 53 man squad (@NFL active salary, three week minimum. Can't sign a player from a team you will play within 6 days). The practice squad is essentially a week to week contract with those 7 players. The designation is worth $5700 a week.

While not sure of the logistics, yes, they would then be playing for the league minimum. As to the cap, it would impact this year's cap, but that really doesn't matter much. The difference between PS pay and 1st year earned minimum pay is only a few hundred thousand. All teams can handle that type hit.
