Could cam succeed in a fox type of offense?

cam wouldn't have been drafted had it been up to fox. if cam had been drafted he sure wouldn't have gotten the start unless forced to do it...just like he was with clausen and The Golden Calf of Bristol and even matt moore. he has never had any interest in grooming a QB. i remember a comment he made several years ago where he essentially said it was a waste of time.

if cam was forced to play in a "fox offense" we would see him stay in the pocket and we would be seeing cam, the true dual threat QB, forced to play in a way that isn't natural to him nor would it have taken advantage of all his skill set. it would have been a square peg getting forced into a round hole...and he wouldn't have smitty to throw to because there is no way smith would have stayed.

fox with The Golden Calf of Bristol last year happened because fox was forced to go with The Golden Calf of Bristol by orton getting traded away...just like fox was forced to go with another QB by jake getting released. with The Golden Calf of Bristol's play last year fox essentially just threw his hands up in the air and gave up and let The Golden Calf of Bristol be The Golden Calf of Bristol because he sure wasn't going to be fox's ideal QB. they went out and got fox's ideal QB...an old QB that has been around the block a few times already groomed and matured.

this whole scenario just has so little basis in reality it's funny....well, not really funny either. it's just kind of ehhhh.....

Dude, you slay me. You put more effort into your post than everyone else in this thread combined. Yet you think it is kinda ehhhh...

I ain't no espert or nuthin. But it kinda sounds like you just dissed yourself. LOL I just found this humerous. Somethings are unavoidable.

And I did wait for you to screw up to jump all over you. Kinda like people are doing to Cam.

Yes, Chud and Henning come from the same coaching tree of Don Coryell. They are fundamentally the same at their core when Chud doesn't try all the crazy poo.

to a point. Henning came up under Gibbs, so he has that H-back stuff, man blocking scheme variation. Gibbs did allright but he settled into a portion of Coryell, not the whole thing - the massive formation variations, the shifts and motions that the more modern guys use that come from Coryell.

In a way, Cam would be used allright in the Henning stuff - Dan would call deep play action plenty, and Cam's arm is up to that. But between Henning and Fox, most of the time things were frightfully simple and the tendencies were fairly easily known. Agree that Chud gets too cute at times, but I don't know that you draft a kid like this to hand off on third down.

I do believe Cam could excel in this system. Sprinkle in some QB draws, or someread option with lots of movement. Plenty of ways to get Cam some carries without all this smarmy draw it up in the sand crap we are watching.

Believe it or not. Cam is really good from the pocket. BECAUSE he can run, no matter what offense he runs, it should be effective.

meh. i had 3-4 minutes to spare and used it on that, so yeah....kind of ehhh.

this was a screw up? nevermind....not interested. keep waiting for me to screw up, tho. i'm sure you'll find an actual one that isn't all in your head before too long.

Fox liked his OC to run the ball, a lot. When it wasn't a running play, it was play action and throw it deep. I think the main difference between his style and the current staff is that he would be on the phone to Chud telling him to run the damn ball until he said otherwise (I understand he did that to Davidson once).

As to whether Cam would have been drafted, given that they didn't give Fox a choice about Edwards or Clausen, why do you think that Hurney would have shied away from Cam? And don't give me crap about Fox not playing rookies, he almost always started the early picks in their first year.

So yeah, he would have been fine with Cam. But we probably would be looking at another season where we won between 7 and 9 games. And as much as I think he's a good coach (probably better than Rivera), it really was past time for a change.

Nice to see Cyberjag posting.

I may be wrong on this, but Marty didn't start forcing players/picks on Fox until he was in "dead man walking" mode, right?

If Fox was around and not riding out the end of his contract, I'm about 90% sure Miller or Dareus would be a Panther right now.

Nah... If Fox was around and riding out his contract, 2010 would have never happened like it did, and we would probably have been looking at another mid-round pick instead of the top overall anyway.

I did not say it was a major screw up. It was just a humorous post, in my eyes anywho. But, it was enough to give you a little dig. Nothing serial, just some good natured ribbing from a fellow homer.

Notice the total lack of z's. Out of respect, I try to limit them when addressing you.

I know it has been a tough week. But, not everyone is butt hurt and pissed off. It just seems like it at the moment.

Panthers 1-2

Lions 1-2

Man, I was hoping this was going to be the NFC Championship game.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
