What's This? A Rational Article On The Panthers?

The Panthers are going to be good. Maybe sooner than later, and Newton is the key to how soon they succeed. But to call one loss more devastating than another in the brief career of a 23-year old is pure folly.

The media was very critical of Newton’s late game and post-game performance after the Giants game. Count me as one of them. But I don’t believe in beating a dead horse, either. The Panthers are still a team trying to find its way after a long stretch of mediocrity or worse having just four winning seasons in their first 17 years of existence.

Newton cannot pick up a newspaper without seeing a story slamming him nine ways to Sunday or his head coach second-guessed to the point where he now seems more culpable in the loss to the Falcons than Newton was in the Giants embarrassment. The constant barrage has to have an effect on the team. It might eventually become an “us against them” mentality in the clubhouse, and it won’t be about the next opponent.

Remember, they hated Cam when he was drafted. If he fails then they were right. he spent an entire year making 90% of the sports analysis world look stupid. And they have not forgave him for that. So if they smell blood they will go in for the kill. after all that was said last week, we should have lost by 50. But once again he went out and shined beyond thier expectations. Fortunately, for the sports world, he lost. So now, here comes the same ole same ole. You wanna know about Cam, watch the game on Sundays.

I still, at least, have the fact we have Cam Newton on this roster as a way to make myself feel better about the future of the Panthers. Just remember how bad it was, and how dismal it was when they Panthers sucked without even an average to good QB on the roster and nothing remotely close to a future at the position.

the situation was just so unbelievably dim when clausen was our alleged "QB of the future" after 2010. it was either that or we could bring in like billy volek to be a punching bag for a few years. we still have problems but franchise quarterback seems to be settled which is more than can be said for a lot of the history of this team.

The national media bashing Cam has brought some of us together with getting his back. I think we need to continue to have baby boys back.

He's ours guys, and we have to take care of our own.

I agree. Bears fans defend Cutler tooth and nail. Cowgirls will tell you Romo can get it done no matter how many 5 INT games he has. There's nothing wrong with believing in and getting behind our guy even when he struggles.

Exactamundo dude. I remember that Giants game how Mike Mayock was trying to break down Cam's mechanics during the game. He was trying to regurgitate all the mularkey they were talking about before the draft and camp last year. He was all "lets look at his footwork on this one" and see if that is why it was a bad throw when clearly the inside rush gets to Cam in a millisecond. Hey, I bet they are livid because RGIII and Luck are sputtering out of the blocks stat wise. One week they are acting like Cam is on the level of Brady and Aaron Rogers, but this week I seen a graphic comparing him to Ryan Tannehill on NFLAM. It is insane.

i don't think even jamarcus russell had hellfire rained on him quite like this until he had just become a complete joke.

A lot of pressure always lands on rookie QBs who are starters for their team. Unfortunately, Cam's team wasn't able to rally around him and put up a lot of W's last year. But I think a lot of the heat Cam is getting from the media stems from shots of him sitting far away from his teammates with a towel over his head when the game is lost. Even when he scores instead of hugging his teammates and sharing the spotlight, Cam separates himself and goes into that stupid hop-scotch dance and the ClownShoe Superman thing, even when the team is still behind. When he grows out of some of that high-school behavior, he'll get a lot more respect from the national media and probably from his teammates as well.

I cant remember the last First pick overall QB being scrutinized this much for not winning early in his career. Crazy.

It's because most(if not all)of the "experts"picked Cam to fail miserably.... if he fails then they can prance around and tell everyone how right they were.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
