What would you do

We don't need to clean house at all. We have the players to win and a lot of them are young. We just need a change a general manager. Just somebody that can build a winning team and give smart contracts. We also need to change a new coaching staff. Coaches that are enthusiastic and can get the most out of our players without being entimidated by them and too scared to say anything to them. I would try to trade Deangelo. He provides very little value too us. I would honestly take a 5th round pick for him if I were GM. That's probably the best we could get anyways. I'd also try to trade Beason for a couple picks or a 1st rounder. That's all I can think of right now.

Clean house doesn't mean get rid of everyone....but it does mean big changes. We need that.

We have several vets on our team on offense and defense that are highly paid that need to be shown the door. The Fox guys need to go. 5 years of losing and guys who dont make impacts, dont step up dont deserve to be here. Now that we have a high profile QB here, we need young TALENTED players just as hungry as he is.

Tell the guys to relax. Id try whatever I could do loosen this bunch up. Last year they played carefree and were having fun. This year they look like they put a lot of pressure on themselves and its because they did, but its time to just play carefree football again.

We do this, and we win a lot of games. Talent is there folks.

fire mcD and brian murphy.

keep rivera...but on a short leash. let him promote wilks since that is supposedly the guy that rivera wanted to begin with. he and rivera might be on the same page than rivera and mcD. make it clear, tho, that things have to be turned around and at least a winning season. if that doesn't happen then move on.

if someone wants chud, let him walk. find a more seasoned OC with a more balanced approach.

make cam get a mind coach if he can't get his head on straight this season. i feel confident that cam can do it without going that route, but i wouldn't be banking on it. he went and got help with his fundamentals when he was preparing to enter the draft and has done a lot of it since then. all that is really remaining is what is between his ears and i wish he would seek out the same help with that as he did with the physical things.

as much as i personally don't want #34 to move on, if there is some way of trading him i would go ahead and do it just for cap space. i would want an early draft pick for him. first would be great. 2nd would be just fine. 3rd....i'd go ahead and take it.

holes that are left on the team on either side of the ball would be filled with vets. pick up players in FA. i would also use all of my existing 3rd-7th round picks to trade for vet players and use my first and second for BPAs.

Aceman GM

-Celebrate that Hurney has been fired. Then repeat original belief that Hurney should have been let go with Fox for several weeks

-Fire Rivera and Chud if we go 5-11 or less

-Hire a fresh, offensive-minded HC. Maybe Rick Dennison from the Texans...Keep McDerm as DC if our defense continues to improve throughout the season, but strongly consider cutting him as well

Offense

-Cut D-Will

-Strongly consider cutting Jordan Gross if he continues to play bad and Bell continues to excel (Surprise!)

-Relegate Hangman to back-up/utility lineman...so that leaves a hole at RG and very possibly LT

-If Steve Smith continues to act immature, his play continues to fall off (drop passes, etc.), AND somehow Gettis turns into a #1 WR...we look to trade him. If not, we turn Smith into an overpriced slot WR similiar to what the Redskins did with Santana Moss and look STRONGLY for a #1 WR in FA. Ex. Mike Wallace

-Finally cut AE

Defense

-Finally cut Fua

-Keep Kuechly at MLB and cut Beason (No one will trade for that contract)

-If TD can stay healthy and look more fluid at the end of the season...try to re-sign him to a reasonable contract. If not, let him walk to FA

- Cut Godfrey. He's our poor mans version of "Brandon Meriweather" when he was with the Patriots. Overrated

-Look hard at FA for a starter at S. Ex: Jairus Byrd

Draft

Look to go DT or LT in the 1st. Ex: DT Star Lotulelei

In the 2nd round, look at DT, LT, S, OG, or OLB. Ex: S Kenny Vaccaro

i'd love that too, but there's no way in hell a team is going to pony up a 3rd. we'd be spectacularly lucky to land a fifth-rounder for him (especially with the size of the contract they'd be swallowing.)

1st off i'm not bringing in some old retread head coach. They rarely workout. What i want is a young OFFENSIVE minded coach with older/veteran assistants who are good teachers. I like the way Pittsburgh went with the young unknown Tomlin but surrounded him with seasoned assistant coaches. This is a passing league but the team Will run the ball and play to Cams strengths. Play action and the deep pass are a must. I actually like the New York Giants offense a great deal so the young Sean Ryan will be high on my list for head coach.

2nd, Kuechly is the middle linebacker/. If it means trading Beason so be it.

3, I'm drafting a left tackle with the 1st pick and moving Gross to right. He needs to be replaced anyways. Fixing the OL will be my 1st concern when it comes to the players.

4, I like the front seven, and i'm ok with the cornerbacks but i WILL FIND safeties who will do their job. They don't need to be all pro or pro bowlers but they will be better than "special teams standout".

5, Carolina needs a big stud wideout in the J Jones H Nicks mold. Thru trade, draft or a free agent i'm finding one.

I agree with all, except for the idea of bringing in an unproven young coach, which I think is always a gamble. For every Mike Tomlin, there are Josh McDaniels, Raheem Morris etc... I want proven winners

Fundamental flaws in those GM actions, hypothetically or course:

The DWill trade is predicated on getting someone to take on his contract or give up anything meaningful for a RB with declining numbers and some years on him. I think that would be unlikely.

The Smitty trade is predicated on someone giving up something meaningful for him. I find that to be unlikely as well.

Straight up player for player trades are rare anyway. It's not as easy as saying "trade this for this" - there has to be a partner who not only has what you want but wants what you have. Draft picks are a more likely currency here.

Assume you hire Gruden and let him bring in whoever he wants. What's to say you don't have 10 QBs in camp because QBs are the bee's knees?

How about running out any player not immediately on board...that could end your hypothetical team with less players than it needs. You'd then have a team full of whoever you could find to fill the gaps who might buy the system immediately but is lacking the talent needed to make that system work...then you're firing yourself in 3 years.

And my main concern is what if you load your team up with Vets by trading away draft picks and build for immediate success. What happens when all those vets get old at the same time after they flash in the pan? That strategy did not build a long term successful organization when we did it in the mid 90s.

Our current GM isn't doing it right - that much is easy to see. But it's going to take a lot more than a few sentences worth of "hey I'd do this" to say what right would be.

What would you do?
