So a friend of mine killed himself...

Last Sunday. I got news about it on Wednesday.

He was one of the most upbeat, hilarious people I have ever met. Had tons of friends, did great in school, and had a lot going for him.

Had almost no signs of being suicidal. The only thing I could ever point to was that he partied a lot and drank.

At first I heard that he died from his parents on facebook. They were reluctant to say the cause, so I figured it wasn't just a car accident or something and started thinking that suicide was a possibility.

Well, a couple days later it was on the news. He burned himself to death. It wasn't a protest or anything. The absolute worst way to go I could ever think of.

This has been haunting me for a couple days now. I can't sleep without having terrible nightmares. Mostly they aren't about this in particular, but other people I know dying-- terrible accidents I have no control over.

This sucks. :(

Sorry to hear about the news of your friend. I do not agree with taking your own life though.

As for your nightmares, you should probably go get some professional help. I think there are underlying issues to why you're having them.

Just my .02

What he said. Sorry to hear, that sucks...was he a close friend?

That was the kid at Jordan Lake? If I remember correctly the medical examiner concluded it was a suicide.

@James...sorry you lost a close friend. I know how tough that can be and I'm not going to say I know what you're going thru. I've been put in the same situation. kid I went to high school(well it was in the 9th grade at least) with killed himself with a shotgun blast to the face.

It's always sad to hear about someone who takes their own life, but killing yourself is taking the easy way out. It's a shame he didn't or couldn't get the help he needed. I know you said he seemed happy and go lucky, but people aren't always as they seem and underlying issues that aren't addressed come out and will lead to depression and/or suicide.

If you are having nightmares about it, I would highly recommend talking to somebody about it so you don't go down the same road.

I've gone through some tough times, but I would never(hopefully) do that to myself. But it still bugs the poo out of me that someone so positive would.

I spend a lot of time worrying about death. Mine as well as others. I usually worry about others more than myself because I have more control over what I do.

I don't think I need some kind of psychiatric help for the nightmares yet because it's only been a few days and I think that it's normal to feel bad for a while. I might though if the nightmares keep up because they really really suck.

And yes it was Jordan Lake. I mean there's always a possibility that there was some foul play involved but the police were pretty positive it was suicide.

I know it sucks. Do your mourning, be there for his family and other friends of his, if you can/feel up to it. As stated, don't let it consume you. Talking to others, especially others that are going through this with you, should help with the subconscious thoughts (since you'd be consciously thinking and airing it out), and thus, the nightmares. If it doesn't, definitely talk to a professional or somebody separate from the death of your friend who can just listen and be there.

Hang in there, bud.

    • To all the analysts who said "Caps in 5", thank you for telling us their departure time.
    • We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
