Rob Ryan refers to Panther as running "some sort of junior high offense"

The Cowboys want turnovers so much, they’re going to stop calling them turnovers.

Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan joked Friday in his weekly media session that he now calls turnovers “takeovers.”

“Obviously, we’re not good at getting turnovers. We changed the name,” he said. “So I think we’re going to do much better. We’re getting takeovers, so we’re ready to go.”

The Cowboys have only four takeaways, an interception and three fumble recoveries, including a muffed punt.

“We’ve got a sound defense, we’ve got great players, we’re not turning people loose,” Ryan said. “The takeovers are coming, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Rob Ryan says don’t worry. He can handle the option.

Or whatever else the Carolina Panthers throw out this week to try to spring quarterback Cam Newton.

“People get turned loose all the time. You don’t see that happen with us, and you’re not going to see it happen with us,” the Cowboys defensive coordinator said Friday in his weekly media session. “So this guy runs some college offense or a high school offense or a junior high offense, we’re going to be sound, we’re going to get after their (stuff). It doesn’t matter what they run – dive option, zone read, whatever. We’re just going to get after their (stuff) and make them punt.”

Sounds about right. Going to be interesting to see how the Oline holds up without Kalil, and how Cam will run the pro style running we need so much without him. God help us.

I'd still rather Chud do it and help Cam grow and progress; he has the ability.

Maybe an extra dose of gadget plays to go with it as well......might see a flea flicking Statue of Liberty Mountaineer.

i bet that's what he spent the whole bye week trying to work out. that and watching a lot of kid's football movies for inspiration.

On NFLN they're talking about we're not the only team who's been running the "read option" as a base. Washington runs some of it, and Minnesota has run it. They even talked about how the "read option" has hurt Adrian Peterson's performance and limited him this season. It made me wonder why ANYONE would run it if it isnt getting great results this season.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
