Obviously not going to happen this year..

Next year we are already over the cap.

Contrary to what some on here think we can't just cut our overpaid and or under utilized players with no consequence.

The contracts signed by Deangelo, Stewart,Kalil,Beason,Johnson,Godfrey and maybe a couple others make it more expensive to cut them this offseason than it would be to keep them on the roster for next year.

Gamble, Gross and Smith also have a good bit of guaranteed money and are actually worth every penny if used properly. They are aging but in the case of Gamble and Gross their contracts expire in a couple years and would be best to part ways with them at that point. Smith will probably retire soon or demand a trade pending on what we do in the offseason.

I don't know the exact amount already committed to next years cap but I've seen reports saying we are close and others mentioning we are over the cap already.

Point is I just don't see us having the ability to get a huge infusion of talent via free agency next year, so once again we will be reliant upon the draft and our current crop of players to turn things around. So if we are in face so devoid of talent and a couple draft picks next year can't save us, then we are at least 2 years away it appears.

I think we'll be a totally different team next season and show that we can win some big games.

We won't be super bowl bound for another 2 years though, unfortunately.

I think Williams guaranteed money is done after this season. He becomes much more expendable cap wise next season.

We still owe him 9.6 million in guarantees and his scheduled cap hit next season is 8.7.. So we could cut him for future benefit but it would cost us 700k in net cap space.

If we waited until after the 13 season we could cut him for 6.4 million vs his cap hit of 9.2 of the 14 season which would save us 2.8 million that season plus 10.2 the next.

How do you think we will be a totally different team? I just don't see where we can get the cap space or anything to change the roster that much.

Sure we could(should) hire a new coaching staff and see how they utilize our roster but there won't be any major overhauls that I can see happening.

We'll have a new GM, and mist likely a new coaching staff. Hopefully we bring back the old Carolina Smash and Dash and learn how to utilize our big arm QB while still mixing in some trickery.

Our defense will have more attitude hopefully and our special teams won't be full of no names that choke under the lights.

A top 10 draft pick could bring in a another solid contributor.

As I've previously stated... and as was Marty's plan to begin with... These deals were all going to be restructured in the future anyways.

Marty is notorious for giving huge contracts and then having players restructure.

With a new GM coming in, I'm almost positive that most if not all deals will be restructured. The GM will have leverage, by saying this to them: do you want to get paid ridiculous amounts of money and continue to be mediocre? Or do you want to restructure so that we can actually contend for a Lombardi?

I'm positive that deals are going to be restructured.

The team itself has a LOT of talent. Any team with Cam Newton is going to be competitive. And the Panthers aren't out there getting blown out (has only happened once this year - to the reigning champs no less). I think the team shows up against the Bears but we're going to see the same result.

So to answer the question, next season. As long as the incompetent Ron Rivera is head coach, the Panthers will be horrible.

      If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.

      I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
