JK Mock Draft 1.0

Here is my too early 2013 NFL Mock Draft 1.0:

1st Round: DE | Damontre Moore | Texas A&M

Panthers have generated little pass rush over the past couple of seasons. Since Peppers left, we haven't had a true pass rusher that we could count on to disrupt the QB. I know many will dislike this pick because of the money tied up with Charles Johnson and drafting Alexander last year but Moore should be better than both. Very explosive player off the line and when attacking the ball carrier. He is no slouch in the run game either. He is also very versatile player lining up at DE, OLB, and even DT on passing situations.

2nd Round: S | Matt Elam | Florida

Most would consider strong safety his true position but I can see him succeeding at either spot. He always seems to be around the ball and is very good in the run game. He has great instincts that are very evident as he comes up with crucial play after crucial play. Just a well rounded safety that can tackle and cover space in the secondary.

4th Round: WR | Conner Vernon | Duke

5th Round: OT | Terron Armstead | Arkansas Pine-Bluff

6th Round: OLB | Kenny Tate | Maryland

Damontre is my sleeper pick and has been balling the last 2 years.this year he has taken his game to another level and will probably rise up the draft board i can see him going in the top 15 picks.

I agree. I think many people say this would be a high pick for Moore but if you watch him play, there's no doubt he'll rise like you say. Just has to continue to play like he has and soon he'll be on everyone's radar.

A little high for Moore. Also don't want any WRs past the 2nd. That's just settling for more mediocrity. Would love Kenny Tate but i'm sure he'll be given a medical redshirt.

I personally don't think WR is that high of a need but if someone is there in the mid-late rounds, don't see why we wouldn't take one. Vernon just produces and I think if he's there in the fourth, he'd be a good value.

But does that mean any pick past the 2nd round is destined for mediocrity?

And what do you mean by Tate medical redshirt? He is playing this year, right?

I just don't think it's an high immediate need. I think the QB makes the WR more often than the WR making the QB. I think Smitty still has a good 2 years left. Plus LaFell, Gettis, and Murphy all are solid enough.

It'd be nice to get a WR for the future but I don't think it's a pressing as other needs that need improvement right now. Our passing offense isn't a major problem.

I agree with what you're saying. The problem is we have enough of WRs like Vernon in Gettis, Adams, and Pilares. We should look for an upgrade to Smitty, and/or LaFell. So unless we have scouts that will find the next Victor Cruz I rather sign a FA or draft one in rounds 1-2.

You are correct on Kenny Tate. I knew he injured his knee at the beginning of the season and thought he was out for the year. But he has resumed play. So I think Tate is a great pickup.

I understand that we will eventually need a #1 to take over for Smitty but why not let those guys develop as we have other pressing needs that will need to be addressed. I just don't see a WR being a top 2 need so I can afford to wait.

But I guess what you are saying is, draft a WR in rounds 1 or 2 or not at all. I guess I see what you are saying with that thinking.

guys can still develop with talent brought in thru the draft, and how long do you give guys time to develop?Smitty is not getting younger, and at the time is not playing the best ball right now. i see WR as a top 3 need and this team really needs to invest a top 2 round pick in 1 because it is some really talented guys declaring.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
