he wrote the offensive playbook for the team he faced in the superbowl and he went with the team that dungy built and put in an offense that just needed to not suck to get to the superbowl.

So he basically took two teams to the Super Bowl in one year. It's not like I want him but it's easy to forget and is probably more impressive that he made the Raiders good again with a crazy Al Davis overseeing him. I just think he's ego got out of whack after winning the Super Bow not unlike Foxy had started to get here after awhile.

Taylor Zarzour said it best yesterday....

If you are JR you don't want to make another hire in your life. So, who do you feel comfortable with hiring who will run a great organization, hold players accountable, has a winning reputation, and has been a HC before? Bill Cowher. If JR doesn't want to worry about who he hires as a head coach then call Bill Cowher as soon as it is respectable to do so (b/c there's no way JR is firing Rivera mid-season) and offer him whatever he wants.

He is paying 100s of millions to keep this operation running and is getting terrible results. Why the hell not pay an extra 6 million or so more than you would pay any other coach to pretty much guarantee that you are going to get great results? There is no reason to go down the assistant route again unless Bill Cowher declines an 8+ million dollar offer and says he's done. ONLY in that case would I start thinking about other coaches..

i'm not a fan of the idea of cowher coaching, but i have to admit that he'd be a safe albeit expensive option.

so if i'm JR, knowing that i've only got a few years left and i've already wasted one rebuild effort on a rookie HC, do i want to risk another one?

if i know that my team is getting frustrated with so little sucess for so long and i know that the fans of my team are bordering on mutiny and are seling tickets to fans of other teams and i really have no real home field advantage do i try to take a risk on a new and inexperienced HC or do i take the safe route and get someone that is proven even if he is a lot more experienced?

I think in our situation we need to go for someone like Bill Cowher or very similar to Cowher. The truth is Cam is the face of our franchise. A second year QB who is very raw but has the talent to be a top 5 QB in the NFL. We need a coach that will sit cam down and coach him up on the field and off the field. We also need a coach that helps take pressure off the players. If its not Cowher I understand but I at least want somebody with these characteristics.
