Panthers 7th in yards per offensive play, 28th in Total Offense

The Panthers are tied for 7th in the NFL in yards per offensive play, gaining a very nice 5.8 yards a snap.

They are 28th in the NFL in total offense, though.

It is a very remarkable disparity. Shocking, actually.

It would be almost impossible to accomplish except for one reason: inability to convert on 3rd down.

The Panthers are dead last in the NFL in Total First Downs

Now, let the chorus of "Chud's a Moron" and "Rivera's an idiot" and "meaningless stat" begin.

There is a problem, though.

The reality is that the majority of 3rd down conversions in the NFL are those of between 3-7 yards.

These are manageable distances. Passing situations in the NFL, for sure, but manageable.

How is the Panthers' passing offense doing in those situations?

They are completing 43% of their passing attempts. Dead last in the NFL.

3rd and 3-7 is not rocket science territory, folks. You can either pass, screen or draw, but ultimately, your QB has got to be able to stand in the pocket and make a play...and probably make a short to medium throw into a tight window. If he can't do it consistantly, or refuses to try by forcing the ball downfield, you are going to be in trouble. And the Panthers are in big trouble unless this changes.

It doesn't hold water.

Remember, your team is one of the best in the NFL in yards per offensive play. If the offensive line was as atrocious as you suggest, this would not, could not happen.

I might also bring up the fact that the "atrocious offensive line" is actually ranked 7th in the NFC. Not great, but not horrible either.

We're not ranked 7th in nothing by a mile.

I got my number from the espn offensive line stats. If you like that site for your stats, well and good. It doesn't change anything regardless.

Umm whatever bro, lol. Our offensive line horrible. Why do you think we keep shuffling it around? Kalil is gone, Byers is a center playing guard. And Amini is struggling as a rookie.

    • 5 straight completions in the 4th quarter to get into the red zone and then score a stand up rushing TD and celly in one of the best defenses faces to bring the score within 1 possession against the super bowl champs is "stunned" to you?
    • yes, if you read what I said - that was due to his record breaking 245 yard 4th quarter performance in garbage time when the Seahawks were already celebrating. If Bryce puts up big numbers in the 4th quarter, people like you are quick to call it garbage time stats but seem to get selective when other QB's do it because it doesn't fit your narrative.  also, I'm logical enough to admit that Drake is a great QB and his performance had a lot to do with his protection, play calling, and other aspects. The game does not fall completely on the QB. Just like how the Panthers were still in the game vs Seattle until Horn's penalty changed that. It is a team sport, so many factors, players, refs, coaches are involved and it only takes one thing to change the game. the obsession with Bryce is just nauseating at this point and if you pay attention on here, it's the same 10 users quoting and pieing each other. it's super weird and everywhere else you go, opinions on Bryce are trending upwards. the way the season ended, the vibe at the stadium, the performance, should have everyone excited about this next season. Idk, maybe I just look at life and my entertainment outlets differently than others.
    • Are we sure something hasnt happened to him because that seems pretty shitty to simply abandon this place
