Panthers had 8 guys who didn't practice - FB Mike Tolbert has entered the dreaded "protocol" after sustaining a head injury last week

To my knowledge, nobody has ever the "concussion protocol" and wound up playing that week. Look to see Richie Brockel at FB this week.

Mike Tolbert (concussion) was absent from Wednesday's practice.

He can be ruled out for Week 10. Although the Panthers have toyed with a more traditional rushing attack in recent weeks, Tolbert is a wasted roster spot in fantasy leagues.

i know some people think highly of him, but i have yet to see any benefit of him being on the roster.

Yeah well that's because our "mad scientist" of an OC (lmfao) has no idea how to utilize him just like he doesn't with our running backs.. I mean he's actually had some good 3rd and short conversions(his strength) from what I've seen but of course we use him down the seam as a TE 101% of the time. He's being misutilized just like the rest of the offense. (again, just from what I've seen in general)

I think Tolbert is a valuable player - we just don't use him right.

He is a guy out of I form and 2 RB shotgun sets that you check it underneath to and he gets valuable YAC almost every touch. Now on a team like this with Cam being on our team Tolbert isn't as needed near the goal line. But he has punched it in a few times. Has a nose for the end zone

Most huddles over valued his.impact when he was signed.

Now that he isn't living up to those over the the top expectations, fans hatehim, or blame chud.

In a full season last year, he had over 923 yards from scrimmage. In half of a season this year, he has 154.

You might want to rethink your observations.

he was needed last season in san diego. he wasn't needed in carolina this season.

Not for the way we're using him, no. We would have been much better off re-signing Shockey or another TE that can both block and catch. But like most on here, I assumed that Chud had an idea of how we could use him before his signing.

Once again I've been reminded of why I shouldn't assume.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
